Anyone else have a psychiatrist screw up the eval clearance!

Yes, I did. I dreaded this from the moment I went there. I had a 3 1/2 hr appointment with her. She was digging up things when I was a little kid. I was pretty upset because this is about the food and health, not about when I was a child....fyi I am 48. So I got through alot of the program and bam this evaluation was awful. I ended up after almost going threw the WL program actually switching hospitals and going into a totally new program/hospital. I am much happier at the Lahey Clinic rather than North Shore Medical Center in Salem, MA. When I went to Lahey, the evaluation was much better. It was simply a 45 minute discusssion with the doctor and then she approved me for the surgery. What a difference a doctor makes. I hope you have a good experience and not have to go though what I did.

Wow, glad u finally found a place that you're comfortable with! But my psychiatrist sent over an eval clearance with only 2 sentences on it...ugh, I'm trying to decide whether I want to ask her to fix it or if I just want to just go to another one!

Yikes--has this psychiatrist had any prior experience with bariatric surgery clearances? I guess it would also matter quite a bit exactly what the two sentence write-up said, but in any case, that's no way to evaluate someone's emotional/mental preparation for major surgery.

I'd say you definitely need a second opinion--the last thing you want is this doctor revising the writeup and adding something worse, or not improving their first effort at all!

I would ask her to rewrite it if there is an issue. No sense in wasting good money.

Ahhh...this has made me so mad, I could've already had a surgery date by now! The psychiatrist approved it, but no, I don't think she is familiar with the surgery...

My surgeon referred me to the psychologist they usually refer people to and it went very smoothly. Same with the cardiac clearance.

I guess I am very lucky...the Nut, physical fitness, psych and medical drs were all at my one location and did the interviews consecutively in a 4 hr time frame then I was done and approved by all of them, then meet the surgeon a week later and he cleared me for the egd...after the egd, they submitted all of my records for approval. Got denied at first due to some missing info then appeal was filed next day with the missing info and got approval the day after that....good luck to all of you!

Thanx, yes all of mine r in the same location as well & everything is moving along quite fast. :-) (Maybe becuz I work there, Idk..) I was just asking those that had a bad experience or felt like their doc didnt know n e thing about the surgery..

The ppl I see has to b qualified & approved by my surgeon.. I was wondering did their surgeon's office request this, seeing that they had issues with whom the saw...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
