7 Month Update - 102lbs Down with pics Half Marathon Training

Recommended Posts

Hey there guys just wanted to give a seven month update on my journey to this point. I started out at around 300lbs with high blood pressure and severe sleep apnea. I have lost around 102 lbs depending on the day and what I had to eat the day before. I workout on a three day rotation. Day 1 I do my running, which consist of a 5-8 mile run depending on how I feel. Day 2 is my lifting day, I try to incorporate fundamentals of crossfit and p90x. I only use body weight for my lifting such as pushups, situps, pullups, dips, because if I lift heavy I will put on weight. I do use some small dumbells for curls and triceps. Day 3 is my rest day, and then I just go back to Day 1. My goal is to run a half marathon by October which seems pretty attainable at this point. My Diet consist of mostly Proteins and vegetables, but I have learned that if I don't intake enough carbs my blood sugar drops way to low due to all the exercise. For Breakfast I do greek yogurt fruit and granola, lunch is usually grilled turkey, chicken, or fish with vegetables and a cup of long grain brown rice. On days I run I might have more rice so I don't fee bad during the run. For Snacks I will roll up deli meat and a slice of cheese with a little mustard to dip it in. I might have two or three of these a day. For dinner I pretty much follow the same pattern as lunch. Before bed I sometimes have a granola bar or some more yogurt and fruit especially if I ran that night. If anyone has any questions feel free to private message me.

Another inspiring member.... I started at 303 and im 5'9"... I think i put off exercising for too long. Im almost 5 months out and only 72 down :-/ i hit the gym hard this week and im definitely paying for it lol.

So when you run do you do treadmill or ground? How long did it take to build your endurance or did you run prior to surgery? Did you lift prior? Are you having any skin issues?

Thank you for posting part of your routine!

How long do you spend on cardio on your lift day? Do you just do circuit and lift every group? Ive been trying to mix this week - 30-69 min of cardio then lift... Chest/tri first day, back/bis second, legs third.. Abs/obliques each day.

On my lifting days I do circuit training but I do focus on either pulling muscles or pushing muscles

Amazing results... any before pictures. How tall are you and what was your starting and current BMI. You have no loose skin issues and your abs and love handles look great. Its a very hard area to trim down... whats your ab exercises like or was that achieved with mostly cardio. Any ideas how many calories your eating a day?

How many calories do you burn on days you run?

I'm 6'0 even, my starting BMI was 41 I do 20 min of abs everytime I lift. I don't count calories, and when I run I burn between 800-1000 calories. Any other questions?

I always run outside on the ground, when I started in January I could only do a mile and in 5 months I've built up to 8 miles, no skin issues that I've noticed except where my ass and my thighs meet there is a small bit of access skin, I have lifted weights most of my life, but I lift differently now I only use body weight and dumbbell exercises and I always lift for one hour and I'm moving the whole time. My lifting is also cardio since I do really high reps for an hour nonstop. Anything else? Just let me know

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
