Re roast beef and roast pork, we say it the same way as GeezerSue does up here in Canada. We also call all soft drinks "pop" whereas you Americans call them "soda." If you want a Coke or Pepsi or Fanta or whatever, you have to ask for it by name.

Not in the south. Everything is a Coke here. But if you are in a restaurant and you want a Dr. Pepper, you have to say so. If you say "Coke", that's what you'll get.

Have to add my 2 cents for what it's worth..

In my region (Boston) soda was called tonic when I was growing up. I would go to a restaurant and order a tonic (meaning a coke or pepsi). Now I would say Coke. ANother funny is that denim jeans were referred to as "dungarees" anyone else?

Only some Americans call Coke soda. I remember when I moved to Illinois from Texas this really good looking guy asked me out for a soda. I had visions of an ice cream soda with two straws -- very romantic. A soda turned out to be a Coke. I thought the guy was cheap, but he was really handsome. To me, any soft drink is a Coke except fruit flavored soft drinks which are pop. I used to love Nehi grape pop when I was a kid. If we ask for a Coke, we get Coke or Pepsi, whatever the store has. We don't seem to care. In the South, if its cold, it's good.

Yeah, I've heard of dungarees but have always thought they were some sort of off-white pants like fisherman wear. Of course, I think fishermen wear overalls now. We always called jeans jeans or Levis. Lots of people here in cattle country wore Levis before they got popular and became designer wear. My brother could wear out the knees in a pair of Levis in a week. So mother did a lot of Iron on Patches on his Levis. The only Levis we had were the currently very expensive 501s. We got them for about $5 a pair.

I also have heard people call tennis shoes sneakers. We call them tennis shoes even if they do cost $200 and are made by some designer shoe company. Lately I've heard people in Oklahoma using the word sneakers!! Heresy! Clearly we played tennis in rubber soled shoes while the rest of the nation was sneaking up on someone. Tonic here means tonic Water for alcoholic drinks. Man, I would have been lost in Boston.:nervous

Its like "bluejeans". Well, duh, what other colour is denim? They're just jeans!

We call coke and the like softdrink. A beer can also be a stubbie - it used to be a tinnie back in the days when beer didnt come in stubbies (glass bottles).

Biscuits are Cookies - we dont even have what you call biscuits over there. Or bikkies for short. A sandwich is a sanga. Tomato ketchup is sauce or dead horse. Thongs are something you wear on your feet and if you tried to open a drugstore here you'd get arrested. Its a chemist or a pharmacy. And you have a fringe, not bangs.

I love these posts, lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
