tkw110 5 Posted June 24, 2013 i still have enteral feedings (j tube) and i can sympathize with the back pack thing. i keep my kangaroo joey and formula plus stuff for flushing on me. this is better than the tpn in the hospital (about 7 weeks not that i have counted correctly). i do not care about what people say or stare' date=' it is just a b++ch to lug around. i am on for 14 hours but working up to 90ml/hour so it will decrease my time down to 10hours. hoping to go back to work (nurse at san quentin state prison) but looking for a new job. will have to run my pump at night so i am practicing nowadays. cannot think i can do my duties with a mic-key feeding tube in place but i will see if my doctor will clear me in july for august work. as for hair loss, my surgery was 7-24-12 and i am still losing...but got a super cute short hair cut that i love...and it is less dramatic seeing the shorter pieces go down the drain!!!! good luck to all!!! with the high calories of tube feedings like tpn...i am still 10-15lb away from goal weight but wear a 6 or 8 and i am 5/5 ( I NEEDED TO LOSE ABOUT 65LBS OR SO) . moRE important is the nutrition. I AM SO TIRED OF BEING TIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!hang in there everyone![/quote'] Do you eat? Did you have a leak? And you are almost a year out and going through this? Sheesh!! NORCALRN 60 Posted June 24, 2013 YEP,LONG HAUL. ended up 10 days post op with fever and left flank pain. no leak identified and was sent home only to have temp still. admitted for exploratory lap surgery, no leak but ended up with hospital acquired pneumonia, abcceses on spleen and liver, pleurual effusions, and likely my vagus nerve was cut so now my stomach does not empty well (gastroparesis). chest tubes, jp drains, you name it - i had it. had some other bizarre issues. finally after 5 antibiotics things turned around. also had a splenic infarct (not heart)...rare but not unheard of. i get very nauseous easily and had tpn inpt then feeding tube then i got a bit better - got that out..developed malnutrion - nasojejunum tube placed for feeding for 32 days (horrible) then got a new j tube in feb. replaced in april and still in use. i can eat a bit. crackers sometimes. i am to try to eat but liquids and food just come right up sometimes without warning. i am told by specialists that i never had a leak, but my surgeon i see locally said yes, subclincal leak- i was too ill not to have had one. i get low grade fevers easily if i do not flush my line to stay hydrated and on those days - in bed for the day. BUT i know i will get better. i want to go back to work. my sleeve was done by dr reyes in mexico. i am told my my team here that it is pristine and an excellent job but who knows who caused what to create the spiraling effects. i have kaiser and love my care...i am lucky to have my insurance. so i think that covers it.....open to questions, etc. hope everyone has a good day. raining here in june in marin county ca!!!! crazy! I'm just wondering as I have Kaiser also and have been considering Mexcio because of my waiting time since approval. I was approved in Feb. and still have not got my date. Was this your issue also, just wondering?
NORCALRN 60 Posted July 3, 2013 thanks to all who have given me such strength with your responses and comments and support. regarding Kaiser, i did not qualify no comorbidities and needed to lose 65#. so that is why i chose self pay. no regrets. i had worked with and continue to see a MD who specializes in weight management - all aspects of support. she is my rock-my advocoate. today was a better day....one day at a time. the heat is hard on me. had a liter hung 3 days ago - as i made an apt for dehydration. no ER for me. i would have gone home if they did not hydrate me in clinic. anyway....thanks again everyone. remember - you all are amazing!!! trish
