moorecr 70 Posted May 25, 2013 My Surgery is not yet sched but I kno it will be in July. I'm scheduled to go on a cruise the end of June and preferred I waited until I came back. My Dr told me that for my preop diet I would not need to do all liquids but to eat low fat for that week. I've been reading a lot of your post and notice a lot if people have to do the all liquid diet. I'm just a bit confused about that, as far as the low fat diet goes Im not sure where to begin. I want to be as prepared as I can before my date comes. Does anyone have any suggestions on low fat preop diet? Thanks in advance
wmbt 3 Posted May 25, 2013 I don't have suggestions yet but, I don't have to do the liquid diet pre op either. I'm thankful but curious as to why there are different strategies. Good luck!

KitKat40 100 Posted May 25, 2013 Can you ask your NUT because they are all a little different ... Because in getting sleeved in July and my NUT gave me a list of the diets and when I start them and calories .. Like right now I'm on 1200 calories low carb high Protein then 2 weeks before surgery I go on all liquids ... Everyone is very different
Phoenix79 452 Posted May 25, 2013 Does your surgeon want low fat or low carb? For mine it's a 2 week low carb high Protein diet (think Atkins induction phase) with 20 carbs max per day. It's supposed to shrink the liver to have better access to your stomach. If it's low carb, just model on the Atkins induction phase- my surgeon said try to go with lower fat choices in the options (chicken, lean beef, etc) but it's not as essential as after surgery. Perfect for grilling season... Good luck!

Vixynne 695 Posted May 25, 2013 If there's one thing I've learned from reading the forums, it's that every surgeon and every nutritionist seems to have their own set of rules and guidelines. Some folks had to do a week of liquids-only before surgery, some a couple of days---my surgeon's rule is liquids the day before surgery. I'm doing Protein Shakes and eliminating bad eating habits already, though, even though my surgery date hasn't been set. I figure the more hurdles I can get past before being sleeved, the fewer I'll have to wrestle with afterwards. Give your nutritionist or surgeon a call; they can clarify their rules for you very quickly! Good luck!
