I know, it does seem crazy when other people are eating Protien or soft foods 4 days out.... I don't really get it, but I'll do what I'm told. Then, when I'm completely bald in 4 months time, I'll post something on here about it and you can all talk me through it. Mmmkay?

Somewhere between eating right after surgery (which I think is crazy too) and drinking no Protein at all, is a happy medium :)

But rest assured all of us will lose hair! Protein or no protein in the first week! :P

I went through a lot of pain swallowing and in the stomach for a least a week after surgery. It was hard to even drink the Protein shakes and I was not hungry enough to do so. However, the doctor and his staff were very clear on drinking them to meet Protein requirements in order to heal in the normal amount of time. I was not concerned about the hair loss, but did want to heal normally.

One strategy that really helped me is to drink 1 ounce of Protein shake every hour. I could manage this through sipping. It was not until 3 weeks have gone by that I was even honking about 8 ounces at a time 3 x a day. Start small with the 1 ounce increments and see if that is helpful. It will get better as your stomach heals!

But then again' date=' if you think about it, most of us have bodies that are used to poor diets and junk food. I think it will work out either way with Protein or no Protein the first two weeks. My body has gone much longer with no nutrians, just junk.[/quote']

IKR? I once realized I'd go months without a sip of water! I lived off diet DP! it's amazing how Water is mostly the only drink I drink!

Hey good people, I was sleeved at Lenox Hill Hospital May 20 and my doc said 64 ounces of hydration and 8 ounces of Protein a day, 4 ounces am, 4 ounces pm for two weeks until my two week post op visit which is june 3rd. Every ones guidelines are different and it's so good to see different ones.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
