Ok, so I'm still in early days post op, but I just had a dream about being force fed mush. So I started thinking. What happens, if someday we're in long term care and we need feeding assistance. I've seen first hand how quickly people are fed, relatively large portions. Larger than our new tummies can handle. I have to eat SO slowly so I don't throw up right now. Just broth!! At my gramma's nursing home, staff are in a hurry and rush people through meals. Hopefully we never have to worry about it, but what if one day we can't speak or feed ourselves...and still have tiny tummies. People get old...y'know.....? It's random, but I didn't think about it before now.

I thought about that too and that is one of the reasons I decided against bypass. The truth is that not everyone eats slowly. I don't. I am about 15 weeks out and I eat at a normal speed. My tummy will not take more than about a half cup or 3 to 4 ounces of food at any given time. I know my limit so I eat until I am satisfied and quit, but never more than my limit. Since the elderly start eating less naturally, I figure that by the time I get there, my limit will be about what they seek to feed me. I figured that without the surgery, I would not get old enough to worry about going in the home.

I worry about this too. Especially if I'd need a PEG tube/ feeding tube- I'd be afraid they'd "pump" too much into me! Ick!

I thought about this before surgery.

By the time I am really old I figure that half of the population or more may have had some form of WLS (even newer procedures) and so medical science would have adjusted to this result. I mean think about it... the first form of WLS started back in 1950's. It didn't begin picking up until the 90's. Now, it is talked about on a hush-hush level like plastic surgery used to be. In 10- 20 years it will be no big deal.

After a few months even maybe a few years for some of us you will be able to get more food in. I wouldnt worry about it to much. Im pretty sure if your put in a nursing home they will have the info about your surgery in your profile. If not hit them like one of the other post suggested.

Well... there you have it. I am half your age, and I worry about random things. But I guess since you'll likely be in a home a lot sooner than me, you can let us all know what it's like to be gavage- fed purée until you puke. I won't laugh though. However, I might say... 'too bad she didn't luck out and die at 60'. Really do love ya too, hun.

Ouch.. Your usually one of the nice, supportive ones. But this is a little harsh, no?

It's not something I'm worried about and I'm a bit closer to that age than many here. But since eating too much or too fast can cause nausea and vomiting, I don't think anyone would be feeding me too much too fast after the first couple of times I threw up on them. :D

Oh and for the record at six months out I can not only eat more but on days like yesterday when I only had a few minutes to stuff something in my face, I can eat with record speed..

So it's not something i would really worry about. :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
