So before anyone tells me to look on the boards, I have. the closest thing I can find is info from 2009.

I have googled up a storm and of course got a bit concerned.

Symptoms: my hands itch like crazy! I have literally taken a nail file and scratched and scratched. at times it has extended up my arms to my elbows and then stop. then my leg would start itching and then stop. Then my chest began itching. stopped. Now I have this rash that is right around the area where the port was removed, but it does not itch. I have been keeping the area clean (disinfecting 2x per day with spray), so even that does not make sense.

Then out of the blue after itching for hours. It will stop entirely.

Has anyone else had this happen?

I have read it could be (worst case) a blocked liver bile duct to (best case) not enough fat in diet or being low on B6 & B12

I am currently 15 days out of surgery and following the yellow brick road to the letter. The itching began about 3-4 days ago.

If I cannot get some answers I will head to urgent care tomorrow...but it is a 3 day weekend, so I cannot even get ahold of my primary care physician.

anyone? help?

Could it be allergies? Some of us experience food intolerances post surgery. Perhaps you are reacting to something new in your new diet?

This happened to a friend of mine because of B12 deficiency. She is about 4 weeks post-op. she has to get b12 injections now and it stopped after just one.

Itching is a sign that histamines are being released in your body. Extreme cold, allergic reactions and pain medications can bring all this on. I am three months out and experience itching in my hands mainly because I am so cold all the time.

I find running my hands under hot Water helps.

No allergies...well, to alfalfa, but as long as I stay away from Idaho in June I am fine ;)

I am leaning towards the comment from Mistysj about the Vitamin B12

The problem is it is not just on my hands, it has happened on my arms and my armpits as well to the point I have created welts from scratching so hard.

I just found out that when our stomach is cut off that we lose our ability to create the "Intrinsic Factor"

quite fascinating and I encourage everyone to google it

Thank you Mistysj!!!!!!!

I am looking into Vitamin B12 shots and will be calling my doctor tomorrow to see if they can do them, otherwise I will have to go to a Naturopathic. I have increased my Vitamin B12 to 5000 MG the past few days and the itching has stopped. I think getting shots once a week would be helpful as well.

Just because you didn't have allergies in the past dosent mean you haven't developed a new one. Our bodies are always changing and you can develop new ones or lose old ones at anytime.

Ironically, I had a craving for my favorite costco Roasted Seaweed sheets. they are little squares and taste like potato chips, but are only 100 calories for the entire container and 1 gram of fat.

I had a hard time stopping eating them.

I have not itched at all since having them. Nori is rich in Protein and one sheet has as much Fiber as a cup of raw spinach and more omega-3 fat than an avocado. Nori contains Vitamin C, mega dose of B12 and compound taurine.

I find them much more pleasant than popping pills. however, if you eat too much of it, your poop turns green. I have not itched in a week. So now at least I know I have another way to get my B12 in.

What section in costco do you find the seaweed?

In the chips section. it is typically in a small display and sometimes you have to really slow down and look back and forth from them because up here in Washington, they really go fast. But costco keeps it stocked everyday.

They are wrapped in plastic as a case so you can see the package design

I have attached an image

BTW...Costco sells it for $6.99 for the case. It looks like Amazon jacks up the price to $14.00

I am so glad I'm not the only one! The palms of my hands and my ankles itch the most! And my neck a little bit LOL I have a video appointment with a nurse practitioner tomorrow, she is from the bariatric center. Hopefully she'll have some news. I'm sorry you're going through this

My current situation!!! This is awful!!!

Hi Crissy, the more I thought about it the more I think it was an episode of toxin leaving your body because it does end! I know no amount of lotion does remediate because it’s not a case of dry skin. It is just a case of toxins, leaving your body and that is a good thing, but I know it is awful!! Hang in there, sister

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
