In need of motivation...

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I need some motivation/suggestions.

I was sleeved 4/1 and I've been pretty successful, in my opinion. I've lost a total of about 50 pounds. The problem I've been encountering is this: it's really painful for me to exercise. I have a pinched nerve in my hip. Anyone who has one, knows what kind of pain this is. it seriously feels like a knife is tearing through your hip every time you take a step. It's caused by all of this excess weight I'm currently carrying. Everyone I have seen have said that once the weight comes off, it should heal on its own. Walking for more than 15 minutes starts to irritate it and I'm left limping back home because I can't tolerate the pain. I tried pushing through the pain once and I walked for an hour. Needless to say, I was miserable for a week afterwards. Every step was excruciating. There are meds I can take (Celebrex) that helps with the inflammation however I'm weary of taking meds since my stomach is so small now and there's less acid to break down the capsule. My doctor said to take it in case of emergency. My question is: what kind of exercise can you suggest? I know this is a tough question to answer but I need help. If I'm home, I usually have some weights to work out my arms and occasionally, I swim since the Water keeps the pressure off of my hips. I can't swim everyday though. What do you think? Does anyone else have a similar problem? I want to speed up this weight loss as much as possible and I'm really REALLY concerned about excess skin. Thanks in advance :)

First, congratulations on your sleeve and weight loss so far! Do you have access to a gym? If so, you might try a bike. Also, the exercise equipment there will help build muscle, which will compensate for the loosening skin. If you don't belong to a gym, went not try walking in 10-15 minute cycles? When you do have access to a pool, do your walking there. You may get some looks but who cares?

Regarding loose skin, be prepared for the worst. There are a ton of factors (age, how long you've been overweight, genetics) bit your skin may not bounce back. I don't want to burst anyone's bubble but most of us aren't going to have Jillian Michel's body without some plastics. But we'll be much healthier.

Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
