The future.. What if im still "lazy"

Recommended Posts

I sit here thinking "I'm going to be having surgery soon, I need to figure out how to get my exercise in after surgery" (once i have doctors approval of course). i have 2 kids ages 6.5 and 1 year. I HAVE to plan ahead... It's my "mom thing" to over prepare. I have recently taught my 6.5 year old how to ride her bike with no training wheels, my motivation for this?? 1) because it was time, she's old enough and needed to learn. 2) because I have a feeling once the weight comes off I'm going to be a runner and her being able to ride bike along side of me running with the baby in the stroller is my ultimate plan! ...

I was skinny once between the ages of 16-18 when I starved myself and ran for my grade in gym class in high school, I didn't want to play games I wanted to run the track.. But anyways... I sit here thinking "If I could run now, I would. but I'd break both my knees..." Now with that being totally true.. In the back of my head I'm questioning my ability to motivate myself... Am I fat because I'm lazy or am I lazy because I'm fat??! I am SO afraid i could sabotage myself after surgery!!!

Has anyone else felt this way??

In the begining after surgery you will need time to heal. While you are healing the weight will come off even if you are not excersizing. I think once you lose some it will motivate you to start excersizing. I really dont think you can be lazy to begin with, you have two children you have to take care of and run after them. You will do fine.

Thanks!! I hope so. I am defiantly not a lazy mom, but my weight keeps me from being as active with them as I want to be. I guess they truly are my motivation in ALL of this. Playing with them how i want might just be the key to my exercise! Thanks again

Lazy is a choice. Just try to remember that. If you chose to be lazy in the future, then that is what your future holds. So why choose that? You hold the power to choose to not be lazy.

I know this sounds overly simplistic. But guess what? It is simple. Once we recognise that we have the power to choose to do things differently, this journey gets a whole lot easier.

kailie, after surgery you will have to walk. And walk and walk and walk some more to feel better and heal. This will get you on the road to movement and all you have to do is stay on that road. Walking is the best exercise for us anyway with minimal strain on knees and hips.

You are lucky you have young kids, they will keep you active and you will FEEL like being active with them.

All the above advice is good. I think you will be fine!

I hear what you are saying..... But, truthfully you will need to walk in the beginning. As you begin to lose the excess weight and your mobility improves even more you will surprise yourself! You will just begin doing things you could not comfortably do before.... Just because you can!

Try not to worry about it.... Truly, the future is bright! Best wishes!

You will do great, if you try to cheat with your sleeve it will hurt. One thing you should know is your feelings for food will change after surgery. The love comfort thing does go away once you find you can no longer eat as much as you want. It is easy and great to be free!!! Good luck on YOUR journey !!! GOD BLESS!!!"

You are way over thinking this. Once the weight really starts to come off, you will be more than motivated to start moving. trust.

I love this site because so many of the fears I have other people have too. Its like someone is in my head. On that note I ask myself the same thing. I have been on a excercise schedule before. So why do I feel this way? Probably because of my history with diets... always start off strong and then I fizz out. The difference now is that we are going to have this extra tool to keep the weight off. So your motivation will always be there! Once we see the results being more permanent we are not going to want to go back to the lazy days!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
