Anyone here take paxil before & after VSG ? The pharmacy said that the pill can be crushed but is also available in liquid. Most of my meds can be crushed. Just wondering what the census is for Vitamins & meds should I get everything liquid or just crush? I was leaning towards liquid but not sure . Any thoughts ?

Also in the case of meds that have to be taken everyday how does that work with the sleeve? :/

paxil is so small that I don't think you really need to crush it or have it in liquid. Other pills that are larger should be crushed up.

You could cut it in half as a precaution, but to be safe just ask your Dr.

I have been on Paxil for years, and I was sleeved on 3/18 of this year. I have had NO problems taking the Paxil whole - it is so small. I, too, was worried about this before surgery. Everyone assured me I would be fine, and if I did have problems, I could always get the liquid. I was able to take my Paxil in the hospital - whole - the day after surgery - no problems! One person in my support group suggested taking pills with something warm if you have problems - like taking the paxil with tea or hot chocolate. I have not needed to do that, but some people swear by it.

I am having to crush my meds and the taste is horrible no matter what I mix them with. Any suggestions. My doc has scared me so about not taking the pills as they are that I'm afraid too.

I'm on Paxil as well. My nurse suggested I put a layer of applesauce on a spoon, add the crushed pills then add another layer of applesauce on top of that. That's the most painless way to do it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
