Well I am new here--

I am thinking about band- I have done a lot of research on gastric and just do not want to have things moved- several of my friends have had it and done great-- but I just do not think it for me-- BUT the local Dr here is going to start banding next year-- not sure of all the details and I am just starting to llok at this procedure so ....here I am!!

I have a BMI of 46 I think and should lose 100 pounds-- but that "ideal" weight would be what I was in high school-- so I am not sure-- I would really like to lose 60-70 pounds and think this would be a great way for me to go-- I have done the HMR diets through the Hospital here several times and had fair results and this last time I lost 25 pounds and have kept it off-- but I am stuck--

oh well sorry for rambling-- I will look around now--

Hi Jim and welcome to LBT. I found this site invaluable when I was researching the band. So many experienced people to answer questions!

Good luck with your research and with your decision, whatever it may be.

Hi and good luck with what ever you decide. I know I'm very happy with my band and think you would be too. Just do lots of research and feel free to ask lots of questions, we all did before we were banded. Good luck.

Hi Jim!

Welcome to the site! I've met a lot of people who have had success with both procedures. Whatever you decide, you'll be on your way to feeling healthier than you have in a long time!

Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
