I would like information on how the results of the sleeve procedure are affected by the presence of Hashimoto's or any form of thyroid disease. Should I expect my results to be less than everyone else's because of my thyroid?

I have Hashimoto's (137mg synthroid) and I consider myself an average loser. I think it depends more on how much you have to lose. The closer you get to goal, the slower the weight will come off. I'm 5'11", started at 265, lost 10 presurg, and have lost an additional 46lbs since then. My surgery was 1/17/13. I've only had one week where I didn't lose (this week!), but I had lost 4 lbs last week and ran a 5K on Saturday, which I think made me retain more Water.

Be sure to get your thyroid hormones checked regularly since when you lose weight you may need less medicine.

I too have Hashimotos. I think my weight-loss has been average and has goon faster than I expected, 51lbs including pre-op. I stayed the same this week which is the first time that has happened. I've had a few weeks where I only lost 1lb. I have had to reduce my synthroid slightly.

I was told 4 years ago that I would someday develop Hashimotos, I now exhibit every single symptom of Hashimotos except for the hoarse voice. I am committed and faithful to my fitness and nutrition yet, even though I am still very fat, I haven't lost a pound. I am a research analyst and so of course have done my homework and see that many doctors treat only for T4 deficiency when it is really more complex than that, with T3 needing to be addressed as well. If I were to be treated for my thyroid, would that kick start my weight loss?

I have Hasimoto's I was sleeved may 16th 2013. I was 263 date of surgery I am now 240. I think as long as your levels are under control you should be fine.

Have you seen an endocrinologist? They specialize in treating hormonal disorders. If your thyroid disease is not being treated or only partially treated I think that could affect your weight but I have been on Synthroid for many years and still struggled with my weight. So it might or might not help. Hashimotos is an autoimmune disease (maybe you already knew that). And it can cause both hypo and hyperthyroid fluctuations. This can affect not only your weight but also many other aspects of your well being including levels of anxiety and/or depression (one of my struggles). It really needs to be monitored with blood work every year at least. It also ups your chance of developing cancer of the thyroid so you should get an ultra sound every few years. I think a lot of Drs don't take it seriously enough or treat it thoroughly enough because it is primarily a "women's" disease. And, you are NOT "still very fat"!!!

http://www.thyroid.org/blood-test-for-thyroid/. Here's good article about T3. T4 and TSH hormones. Getting your level of TSH tested will tell you if you've got enough T4. Really you need to have a blood test for all three.
