I was reading on the post op forum That an abdominal binder is sometimes used and you can buy them at a medical supply store. Has anyone ever heard of using this from their doctor???? I am going to ask when I see her next week but I just wanted to get some opinions before I went...

I got mine at the hospital. I just asked them for one and they brought it to me.

They make lots of types - mine was pretty simple, just a long stretchy piece of fabric with velcro. I still use it occassionally, I'm 3 wks post op. It helps when I'm cleaning the house and moving a lot. When I move around for longer periods of time, I get a little achy in my belly and it really helps.

Ask your doc if they would give you one in the hospital. I also got one in the hospital (a different hospital) when I had my GB taken out. It's not an uncommon thing for the hospital to provide. :)

What is the binder? Is it something like the belt youj put around your waist when you exercise?

It's almost like a girdle but I guess it helps support your back after surgery... I thought it helped make your stomach flatter... Silly me

It's something you wrap around your abdomen. It's used to provide support post surgery so that you aren't pulling as much on your surgical sites as you move. I think of them something like Ace bandages for your tummy, though you only wrap them around you once.

My sleeve is on the 10th at the hospital, I wi be a revision from band. I got my band at the bariatrics center, however the insurance I have now covers sleeve if preformed at a blue distinction and that's the hospital my bariatric surgeon does surgeries at the hospital every other monday so idk if they will have them there but my endo is at the bariatrics office.

I didn't get a binder but I purchased two Jockey tank tops that were soft cotton on the top and about an inch on the bottom (the part that would stick out under your over shirt), the section in between was like a binder, it held everything in nice and tight! They were great when I went back to work, sleeping, ect. I found mine at Khols.

I will be using the one I bought when I had a c-section...it's a belly bandit. I bought the bamboo material since that was the one for c sections...something that has to do with the material isn't harsh on the incision site.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
