Hi I'm waiting for my approval from the insurance. I need to loose 200 lbs for my goal and was wondering since the weight for most seems to drop drastically fast, how does your skin react? Does it shrink too, or yih have excess baggage?

It's different for everyone.. depends on how much you need to lose, how long you have been heavy and your age.

On that note, I have also been using Palmers Cocoa butter to help with it and so far so good. I'm trying to do everything I can to prevent needing to have another surgery to fix loose skin.

I have the same concerns, and really there is no definite answer on this. Some people snap back, others don't. Since I've always been heavy, I'm expecting to have excess skin.

However, I've also read quite a bit about how after you lose the weight to wait a year before having surgery to remove skin because the skin can shrink up a bit if you keep toning with exercise. Again, not true for everyone - genetics plays a role as does your personal history. I already have a bunch of stretch marks - but I'll happily use Spanx than carry around the extra weight!! :)

Good luck! I'm using Palmer's Shea Butter lotion and Bio-Oil. I'm only 3 wks post op, so I don't know how well it's working, but my skin is nice and silky feeling!

I am still a few months pre-op. My insurance company requires at least 90 days of education and counseling before surgery. Since I have around 200 lbs to lose, I have asked the same thing about extra skin. Doctor, nutritionist, exercise specialist all say pretty much the same thing and that it varies. They've seen some people who have lost hundreds of pounds and you couldn't even tell now, and then others have extra skin. The one thing the exercise specialist said was to make sure to do resistance training and not just aerobics. The resistance training has a positive affect on skin elasticity.

The skin is the most difficult aspect for me.. I have bingowings, a pannus, wrinkly thighs and my CALVES are already wrinkly and breastcicles... and I'm only midway through my journey.. My weight loss has not been that fast.. about 2-3 pounds a week.. I'm just not blessed with resilient skin,,, and I've been fat my whole life. I'm saving fervently for plastics!

Like everyone else said, it's different for different people. Me personally I'm going to have saggy skin..and everything. I already have a nice pair of wings! I keep telling my nephew if I'm not careful on a windy day, I'll float away because of my wings :) My biggest issue is going to be my lower stomach!

It varies - but for us who need to lose more than 200 pounds, it's basically a guarantee that we will have some level of lose skin. It physically can't bounce back THAT much. But loose skin is healthier than being obese. We have to remember that we are here for our health, not to be on the cover of Vogue.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
