Fiddleman 4,376 Posted May 24, 2013 I ate a whole apple split in two with almond butter for morning snack today. Skin and all. Just wanted to say it can be done. I felt a slight twinge in the GI tract afterwards, but overall, not too bad. 2 mistysj and DrmBig4Evr reacted to this

Perhaps if you peel the skin off you would be OK at a little less then 3 months post op. Not sure. Many folks struggle on the skiing for a long time. I just tried it today and am almost 11 months post op.
Chelenka 827 Posted May 24, 2013 Good advice Fiddleman. Do you play the violin per chance? pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op
Fiddleman 4,376 Posted May 24, 2013 Yes, in fact I do as an amateur. I have been playing for about 27 years. Up until college I played mostly classical in orchestra and was a concert master. Starting in college, I switched to Irish fiddling and played in many jam sessions, a few paid gigs with a band. Now I mostly just play when there is time, not so much in the last few years. I hope to get back into it now that I have gained a lot of self motivation back after going through the metamorphoses of being a post op. someday I want to be a pop / rock violinist!! 1 danyelleb reacted to this
Chelenka 827 Posted May 25, 2013 My hubby plays the violin and the viola, mostly chamber music gatherings with friends. He was a concert master too for a while. We love Irish and celtic music (really the sane thing). Are you familiar with Secret Garden? It's a sort of gospel/Irish fusion. Anyway, now I really am craving an apple but I'll hold off a few more months. I can eat raspberries and strawberries with no problem but they don't have the skin or that wonderful flesh that apples have. Fiddleman 4,376 Posted May 25, 2013 Who's Fiona? Fiona apple??? The post above yours asked if I knew about Secret Garden. Very much so, although has nothing to do with the original topic of this thread (my apologies!). Fiona is a violinist that belongs to the Celtic fusion group called Secret Garden (very popular in Europe). She is so relaxing to listen to and I aspire to play like her, really like her style of violin playing. Maybe I will eat some apple while listening to her music and bring the thread back on topic. http://www.amazon.com/The-Best-Secret-Garden-Millennium/dp/B0002IQIFQ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1369455140&sr=8-5&keywords=Secret+garden 2 Chelenka and No game reacted to this
Globetrotter 1,340 Posted May 25, 2013 I didn't realize people had difficulty with digesting apple, I think I had my first one abut 3 months post op, I had followed the clears/pureed/mushy timeline to the letter so that first apple was like ambrosia of the gods - it was just a run of the mill factory granny smith apple but the flavors exploded in my mouth with exotic nuance, and the crispy juicy flesh yielded to my teeth in the most delightful way 2 Fiddleman and Chelenka reacted to this
courtoomp 107 Posted May 25, 2013 Oh apples how I adore thee. Am a 4 months out and have been eating apple with skin for about a month. I have no issues but then again I have no issues with any foods (a blessing an a curse!) 2 Fiddleman and Chelenka reacted to this
