I was told after surgery that I wouldn't be hungry at all. I am. It's not psychological hunger either. Does this go away? I had surgery on May 15.

Try mixing Protein power in your broths it will help with hunger my nutritionist said...and the hormones that your old stomavh produces have to leave your body..easiest way is stay on the liquid diet n do the Protein Powder mix

I hate that doctors push the grehlin aspect so much. I'm 6 months out and still get hungry, only instead of Pre Op pains, I get nauseas now. It gets easier as long as you make sure to eat your meals and snacks!

For those that feel hunger after surgery, And have ruled out head hunger, I wonder if your doctor prescribes an acid reducer?? You can Google How extra stomach acid can make you feel hungry...maybe that is what you are experiencing??

I really don't think it's head hunger because my stomach growls and feels uncomfortable. I really don't like it and it's one of the reasons I chose this surgery over the others. Hunger has always been a big deal for me. I HATE being hungry. I am on an acid reducer.

I had a hard deciphering what was hunger and and gas/ healing pains. I thought I was hungry too because my stomach would growl and make strange noises...but when the gas subsided I felt so much better. I'm three months out today and have to force myself to eat because I'm truly not hungry! Good luck and hope it gets better!

My stomach and throat make those same growling and gurgling noises. I'm glad to hear it gets better. I'm 16 days post op and it has been getting better each day.

Good to hear tootie! I'm 8 days out. I went to a restaurant tonight for the first time. I had a cream Soup and I think it must have been a little rich for my stomach. Definitely couldn't eat much of it but my stomach stopped growling! Maybe I just need more substance to my food.< /p>

I would definitely recommend staying away from anything too rich at this stage. Stick to Soup. When you can eat soft foods, Mexican restaurants are great. A side of refried Beans will be plenty. Once on solid food, get the fajitas (ask then to hold the butter). However you won't be able to have chips or tortillas for a while. One of the benefits is that you can make your meal out last for 2 or 3 meals afterward!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
