Hi I am 62 and am now 103 pounds down from my highest weight. I am asking my self where do I stop the weight loss. How thin is enough. I weigh 143 and have always been 5'5" 3/4now I am 5"4"3/4. Help I am shrinking, both in girth and height. I am also much more vulnerable than I have been for a long time. No food to dull the pain of whats bothering me, It is a great time but it is a scary time. Then on top of it someone said they liked me heavier I was more vulnerable. With friends like that. Yikes.

I was 6'4" when I was a teen, 6'2" now. I have accepted the gravity of the situation. :D

I had my surgery Nov. 12, 2012 and am 67 now. Just had my one and 1/2 year check up this week and the surgeon's PA was really pleased. All my labs were great, and I've lost over 100 pounds. Reached my goal weight at 13 months and below it but still in normal BMI range so she was happy with that if I was comfortable. Went from 1x or 22/24 to 8P to 12P depending on the style. On my second set of summer clothes as ones from last year are too big. Have a completely new wardrobe, so like to shop sales now and consignment shops. I hated to shop before!!! When I wasn't losing weight, I started tracking again and upped my Protein per the nutritionist. I give myself a 4 pound leeway so I know exactly where I am. Just had 6 weeks of no exercise except limited walking and was able to maintain weight. :D

This thread is so inspiring! I waiver back and forth about the sleeve. I have serious doubts about being successful because I tend to sabotage myself. I am 4' 10" and weigh 267. The lowest I have weighed in my adult life is 142. I can't even remember weighing less than 100 lbs --- ever! I have yoyo'd with every diet known to man (or woman for that matter). I have little or no support from family.

Ugh! That said, I read the postings and get so excited about the possibility of losing this enormous weight. It's hard for me to believe (and I fool myself all the time) that I weigh more than some football players! Little me!

So, I need to bookmark this post and read it over and over again. I find it so inspiring and hopeful. Thank you all for your stories and successes. I am just beginning this journey and it means so much to me to see all of your successes. I only hope mine can compare.

You mention sabotaging yourself. As important as the surgery is getting straight with the "head" part, separating eating food from emotions.

I am 65. Waiting for clearance from cardiologist. Have to get a stress test, if that clears, I should get a surgery date shortly after. My surgeon is Dr Keith Kim in Celebration, Florida.

Has anyone else had the nuclear stress test, and were there any problems form that?

My husband had a terrible reaction to the dye from the nuclear test and other tests using the dye. It lasted several weeks. Research it. I know the dyes affect your kidneys. If you can do the walk on the treadmill, forego the nuclear. My sister also had a reaction. The doctors only recommend the nuclear if you are physically impaired I gather.

Hello Sixties,

I am new to this forum. At this point I am waiting for insurance approval (for the second time). This is in response to the woman who has trouble walking. I am in the same boat--knees, hips, and back are in rough shape. For exercise, I have found Water walking and Water aerobics are PAIN FREE!! This has helped me become more active. Fortunately, I live in an area with a rec. dept. that has many pools and offers many chances for water classes as well as time to do your own thing. Good luck with your exercise.

Ms. Pandora

Hi all- I am 64 and have been sleeved for almost 6 years. I am currently working on the 20+ lbs I have managed to put on the past 3 years……. it is not easy. I have lost 4 lbs the past 6 wks. But I know progress will be slow. Just retired and moved to Az, getting use to this new life style. I recently developed a "hole" in old c section scar and went to plastic surgeon to see if having some of my skin, etc. removed would help problem. He was no help……… wanted to do a Tummy Tuck, which insurance would not cover. But am glad to be moving forward and working on weight and health is a life long endeavor. It is hard to find a doctor that will take a patient from another state and this far out from my surgery……… anyone out there in the Tucson area?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
