76 lbs lost, 4 months out...and ONEDERLAND!

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited. Last week, I hit ONEderland! I'm now 197.8 lbs! This is a big milestone for me... It's the halfway point. I'm actually a little more than halfway now... ONEderland! and I'm not morbidly obese anymore...I'm just obese! So I'm really excited. Here's a pic.

Before, I weighed 274 lbs. Today, I weigh 197.8. I am 5 ft. tall.

We all lose at a different rate. I'm at 3 weeks and 21 lbs down. I'm sure you aren't doing anything wrong it is just the rate your body wants to drop its weight.

Thanks everybody! I am definitely enjoying the process!

I'm just trying to follow my doctor's advice... but others are right. Everybody loses at their own rate and we shouldn't compare ourselves to each other. I'm losing kind of fast, but I had a lot to lose to begin with. I had 150 pounds of excess weight to lose. People with more to lose seem to lose faster at first. But if you look at percentages, it really evens out to about the same for most people. At 4 weeks, I had lost a total of 30 pounds... and 20 of that was post-op.. so I don't think you are losing slow at all!

I think my sleeve is on the small side. I can't eat more than about an ounce at a time. Sometimes a little bit more now but not much. So, I don't get a lot of calories but I do try to get around 60 grams of Protein. I'm keeping my carbs under 20 if I can. I exercise every day...or try to. This week, I have only gotten it in about 3 times because we have been so busy.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
