For those with BMI 36 or lower, how much did you lose your first month pre-op

Recommended Posts

It's so difficult in groups so large to grasp when others say they have lost 70 lbs in 8 weeks when that is more than I need to lose total. I need to lose 60 lbs to be "normal weight" and I sure as heck know that won't happen in 8 weeks. So realistically, how much did you lose in 4 weeks?

I had surgery Friday May 17 and am down 6.7 pounds already (31 if you count my supervised 3-month diet and liquid Protein diet).

Be careful.... this answer will be different for everyone. don't compare. Hard to do I know. I lost 16 first week. I'm in week three and feel like I gained weight even though I'm only doing soft foods. I never ever feel full, always stomach growling. Frustrating.. Wish I could loose my 90 in a few months but....

I was 4 weeks out last Tuesday. I have 60 pounds total to lose. I lost 9 the first week and a total of 25 pounds this month. Also- I was on 1 week of Clear Liquids post op, 2 weeks of full liquids and 2 weeks of soft diet. So I'm not on a normal diet yet- I'm not sure if that matters! I also see the scale go up and down- I'll lose 4 pounds and gain back 2 the next day ect. Gotta toss the scales before I go crazy!

I has surgery in July 23rd. I had 60 pounds to lose and have lost 7 as of today. But some people say they lost 15/20 the first week and I wonder to myself, am I the one person who won't lose much after all of this?? Thanks for this thread.

Don't compare yourself to others. The less you have to lose the slower it will come off. Keep eating right & increase your exercise as tolerated this is what helped me. I only had about 45-50 lbs to lose & I never had that big lose, but I am proud to say I loss the weight at my own pace. Good luck to you!!!

I have been beating myself up because I was only 1 week after my surgery and I stopped losing weight. I lost a total of 20lbs since before surgery, so of course when I stopped I got very upset. I am happy that I am not the only one that is having this problem. I said why did I do this to myself? Reading your letters has made me understand that I'm not alone and that I need to work hard and keep my spirits up, because eventually the weight will come off. I will stay off the scale. I have my first doctors and dietician appointment tomorrow and ready to start on a different diet. Thanks again for all the support.

I had surgery on 6/17. I have lost 17 pounds since surgery and 40 total. My BMI on the day of surgery was 35, and for about one week I have been in a stall. It's very frustrating, especially because I am sitting one pound away from onderland. Ugh.

It's different for everyone. I couldn't even say with out looking, so I looked at my MFP chart. 23 pounds in the first 30 days.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
