So I am three months out on the 26th and doing really well except I feel like I'm internally burning almost every minute. I am on two acid blockers a day also I chew about 6-8 tums everyday....I know all that's probably not that great for me but they help with this horrible heartburn. It doesn't matter what I eat or drink...I'm dying ( a tad dramatic I know) but seriously idk what else to do...ugg!

Agree ^^^^^ Especially since you are on acid blockers already (PPI). Are you using prilosec? If not, you may want to mention this to your doctor as another PPI to try.

I'm not really an expert and I'm pre-op, but have you tried chewable papaya tablets? I used to have horrible acid reflux and it really helped me to take it just before meals.

I am 3 years out and am still on a daily Prevacid extended release. Interestingly, if I follow a true VSG diet of very high Protein and little to no carbs, the heartburn is viscious. The more carbs I eat, the less heartburn, which sucks for my diet! I would very much like to get off the PPI as long term use just INCREASES acid

It sounds crazy but try googling acid reflux and magnets.

Before surgery I have gerd and pyloric so four weeks before surgery I was taking 3000 mg of antibiotocs at day crazy but true. So far I am still taking my 40mg of omeoprazole and that really helps. You should call your doctor maybe he can prescribe you a higher dose. Wish you the best

Thanks all, I am on protonix 30mg twice a day, I started out taking one but the heartburn was so bad I now take two. I'll have to try those papaya tablets. I've looked up

Foods that help acid reflux and things to do...nothing has helped yet. Praying it goes away soon!

You might also try a green drink like green essence (from Vitamin shoppe). These are really good at clearing up inflammation, heart burn and those kind of things. It does not need to be green essence, but should be a green drink with ingredients that help with alkalizing the cells in the blood (read: increase the PH levels).

Here is a good article:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
