Advice for bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I just got home for the second time in the hospital in three weeks. First time was 5 days this time 3 days. I just wanted to give everyone a head's up and something to really watch. I've had kidney stones and I don't have enough keys on this laptop to tell you how painful they've been. I passed 5 and still have one big one (6 mm) or bigger stuck in the uretha and has lodged there and won't move. The reason I'm telling you this is the kind I have are caused by two things. Both things never happened before banding. The first one is caused by too much Protein and they told me I need to go on a very low protein diet to keep from getting them again and the second is I'm pretty tight and I just don't drink a lot because I'm not thirsty and it just takes so long.

I see a specialist Thursday and they will try to bust it up because it's blocking the flow and causing my left kidney lots of distress. They did cat scans the first stay but couldn't find the last stone so this time I had to have the dye thing done and it showed up big time.

Just be careful, drink lots and I have no clue about what i'm going to do about the protein thing. Only good thing that came out of it was after not losing for 3 weeks I lost 7 pounds, probably just Water but I'll take it.

Will keep you posted, just don't want anyone else to go through what I've been through. They have kept me on morphine every 4 hours and it's just not been very pleasant. Thank God that's all that was wrong though.

Hang in there.

I have heard that kidney stones are excrutiating! I hope youare better soon. May I ask, do you have high blood pressure? I am just wondering if that would add to it. I know that if you have Protein in your urine, it is usually due to the blood pressure being high and Protein being forced through even though it is usually to big of a molecule to make it out. hmm. What are stones made from I wonder. You have me thinking now...

How much protein were you eating? Best wishes and I hope you get that big stone passed soon.

MySherriJo,

Make sure the doctor defines "low protein" in terms of numbers and amounts. Like, how many grams of Protein should you have a day and what does that look like at meal time.

I hope you feel well soon. Water is the key...lots of it, and try not to goover 100g of Protein a day. But really water is what keeps flushing the kidneys so that the toxic substances the kidneys clean do not pile up there and form stones. Also watch the protein from dairy products, they are usually more the culprits than lets say fish or lean chicken. Sip, sip, sip whenever you can!:)

He says no more than 20 grams of Protein per day. I was eating around 60 to 80 tops. My blood pressure runs about 134 over 80 or so. Never higher but lots of times way lower. I know it seems like a damned if you do damned if you dont. I really think my drinking is the biggest problem. I hate Water, although I drink it and I am just never ever thirsty. I mean I could go all day without drinking but of course I don't. I am really really trying to drink more. Thank you for all of your well wishes. I really don't think since it's been 3 weeks and it hasn't moved any that it's going anywhere. I've had 4 surgeries in 2 years and I don't want another so I'm just doing a lot of praying at this point.

Sherrijo....My husband gets kidney stones constantly. He has had them lazored 3 times in the last 5 years. His are soo big that they blast them before they leave the kidney. Passing all the small fragments kill him. Have the doctors analized the stones? My husbands were from caffine. He hasn't had another since he stopped mountain dew and iced tea. He never drank Water. He would go through 6 or more cans of mountain dew a day.

I know that they are very very painful and I hope that you get rid of these darn things. Take care of yourself.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
