Lightweights in the house! Any more people with less to lose/less BMI's?

Recommended Posts

So I'm considered a lightweight....yea....thats me LOL! At 32 BMI I'm technically lightweight. I have been at 35 BMI for the last several years or so and have actually managed to lose a bit on a low carb/high protein/mod fat/low cal/sugar free (paleo/primal) lifestyle' date=' but am as usual having a very hard time keeping it off consistantly. It keeps creeping up.

Was just wondering if there were anymore people on here with about 100lbs or less to lose, or otherwise considered lightweight comparatively. Any who've had the procedure? If you've had the procedure, how much have you been losing? What's your progress, and how're you feeling about the procedure so far?

Thought I'd make a thread for us that have less to lose than the SMB or even the MB people on here. So we can share our experiences and just chill.

BTW, thought I'd add. Everyone is welcome! All sizes! All opinions are valued here! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />[/quote']

My doc told me I was considered one if the lowest weights they do the surgery for. In fact he made me weigh several times cause I did no look 230lbs. But like the other gal said, fat is fat. My BMI was just under 40. I have pcos, type 2 diabetes, hbp, clb pain, ibs, etc. but aside from that my weight literally prevents me from doing important things that I use to do or I want to do. I made a weight loss list.

Go back to yoga, spinning, swimming, rafting, hiking, dressing in nice clothes, going out with my sexy handsome husband, sky diving, ware shorts and tanks again, fly in an airplane again as not drive everywhere, run and jump into my husbands arms, enjoy clothes shopping without crying cause I don't fit, be a better role model to my kids, walk my dog without getting winded, fit in the dang desks/chairs at school,

I want to ware a dress and go dancing with my babe, go rock climbing with my kids, go on a zip line, enter a tattoo contest (pin up style), join Zumba, go on the romantic tropical getaway to a beach in a real bathing suit with my babe (give him a reason to carry a 45),

And most importantly get rid of all these messed up weigh related health problems!

Thank you Butterflyhigh and SuNMoonNStarS816 for the input! It is such A HUGE relief to hear that!!! I'm going to go check out that study now. Phew, I feel elated right now, especially compared to how let down I felt last night after reading the "disadvantages" portion of the page at that site. I can't thank you enough! :D

This study is about gastric bypass but it shows the surgery done earlier has more benefits.

The U.S. National Institutes of Health recommends bariatric surgery for obese people with a body mass index (BMI) of at least 40, and for people with BMI 35 and serious coexisting medical conditions such as diabetes.[1] However, research is emerging that suggests bariatric surgery could be appropriate for those with a BMI of 35 to 40 with no comorbidities or a BMI of 30 to 35 with significant comorbidities.[3]

Ok, so are these or any of these considered a comorbidity?

Pre-diabetes

Gestational Diabetic

Borderline HBP

Borderline Cholesterol levels

PCOS w/ annovulatory cycles, w/ heavy bleeding of more than one pad an hour, and debilitating cramping (the norm nowadays for cysters)

Horrible knee/joint pain. Debilitating at times.

Back pain, (back gets stuck often, very painful)

Painful IBS

Severe Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

woah (it really puts this obesity thing in perspective seeing all of my issues laid out like this, one after another  )

Does insurance cover plastic surgery after wls? I know all are different but I was wondering if I should even think about it. I'm sure my boobs will be at my knees

I don't have enough "loose skin" to even ask if insurance will cover. I know depending on your policy it could be covered, however, there is documentation that would have to be provided (rashes, etc). It is unlikely that being a lightweight insurance would cover anyway - most policies have a "lost 100+ lbs rule."

I can totally relate to this. Not only am I afraid of what the higher bmi folks are thinking....I'm reeeealy worried about what my normal bmi friends/family may think. I've pretty much decided to only tell three people. I don't want to deal with the judgment and behind-the-back talk about how I could have just dieted and exercised more, how I'm not THAT fat, or how they would never be making this drastic of a choice if it were them.

I know the feeling. I didn't tell anyone, I had surgery on Monday and was back to work by Friday. Because I was a lower BMI my weight loss was not that noticeable to those I saw everyday - for people who have not seen me in a few months comment but don't dwell on it. It is interesting I find that most people I interact with who have a higher BMI - for some reason - feel like those with lower BMIs don't "need" or "deserve" the surgery as much as they do.

I noticed the same thing (on other boards). It's the reason I decided to create this topic as a separate little place for us all to come to and know we aren't alone in this! I became pretty sick of hearing that "lightweights don't deserve/need surgery" bull. Fat is fat is fat! So screw anyone who thinks that way. And onwards and upwards for us all! :D

That's a great idea! I want to make a list of things to do after WL too! First I want to go horseback riding again, jog without my boobies hurting, shop at Victorias Secret, go to Disney with my 2yo by next year so I can ride the rides with him, go to the beach without a full skirt bathing suit on ... And the list goes on ;)

I'm 5-3 and was 195 day of my surgery which makes me a lower BMI but i felt more like a staypuff marshmallow girl. Tomorrow is 5 weeks and I'm down 27 pounds. I just zipped up what i considered my skinniest jeans- size 8 and cried like a baby. They are a little tight but my rear was in them and thrilled!! 11 years ago, I was a size 6 at 140 pounds on the day I found out I was preggo and I haven't been under 175 pounds since that baby was born. Today I was 168! I have fought tooth and nail to stay under 200 so this is amazing to me! Still in the fat is fat club- I am seeing some angel wings on the arms and my stretchmarks are looking crazy different to me! I don't recognize myself and that's a good thing!

Wow! You're weight numbers are exactly the same as mine! All except the 195 pre-op......but my weight is creeping back up faster than I lost it (175 from 185 in 3 months) with the paleo diet change....ugh. But anyways, yeah I have to fight like hell to keep that scale from hitting 200 too! My body is in love with my 185 weight and will do anything and everything to throw that weight right back on within the first 2-3 months of any exercise+diet regimen I try. And this is ever since my first pregnancy. Before pregnancy I was at 140 exactly like you, albeit I wasn't EVER a size 8. I have been a size 11-12 since I was 13. But my height is also 5' 1" too. But our scales wouldn't know the difference lol! I too haven't been under 175 lbs after the babies. Just hit 170 less than a week ago...and I'm back at 175 and going up again. My body gets used to my diets too easily. Have to keep changing up everything every few months to maintain or lose.

Yay you! A month and a week, and you've lost 27lbs way to go girl! Thats the kinda news we lightweights need to hear! :D

We are literally the same starting weight. I don't consider my self a light weight by any means either but many look at me and the way I carry the weight and say: surgery is so drastic just exercise it off. I have tried for 10 years to no avail!

That's my exact situation! Everyone tells me the same thing, but I respond with, "If I could have lost it, I would have done it within the past 10 years!!! I have 80 pounds to lose, and I get sleeved June 18th...can't wait!

I'm 5'2 sleeved on May 15th. Starting weight was 205 (gained 10 pounds the month before surgery trying to eat everuthing i would never eat again lol). I'm now at 190. BMI of 35. Still losing about a half a pound a day. My goal is 130. Haven't weighed that since high school...but I know its possible.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
