I know this will be hard but I look to these posts to keep me inspired. You can do it!! I will, and you will be successful! This is our shot, one day at a time, one meal at a time! I'll be here for support. Congratulations in advance!
vegasneon 181 Posted May 22, 2013 I am on day 10 of a 2 weeks liquid diet. When I get hungry I eat greek yogurt, usually with a squirt of Water Enhancer (like Mio) or have broth. I'm suppossed to have 3 ensure nutritional drinks a day and I usually make an additional shake myself with Protein powder. Also I have been having Miso soup- I figure its really a vegetable broth if you strain out the seaweed & tofu. It just feels more substantial to me. I can have sugar free Jello or pudding or popsicles but I just dont care for any of those. I ended up trying each but feeding the rest to the Grandbabies. Plus of course lots of Water and ice tea. I'm not starving, sometimes I feel kind of empty and my stomach does growl loudly when its getting time for some yogurt. I do have to keep reminding myself at the grocery store- you can't have that as I start to reach for something. Good luck to you both, it will be fine. 1 Healthier2day1227 reacted to this
DonRodolfo 1,416 Posted May 22, 2013 I am on day 9 of my two-week liquid-only preop diet. The first four days were awful (plus I had allergies to deal with) but I woke up on the 5th day and life didn't suck. I've always been able to deal with a growling stomach but it was the headaches and weakness that I couldn't handle - these were gone and I've been good since. The way I see it, we're the lucky ones. By the time we get to surgery, we'll be past the hungrys. I'd hate to be someone who was allowed to eat what I wanted until the last minute. On top of dealing with recovery from surgery, who needs dealing with not being able to eat all of a sudden. No thanks. My surgeon allowed me the occasional cup of low-sodium broth - this made a world of difference. I am not a fan of sweets and the shakes got old quick. Hang in there, it gets better! DonRodolfo 1,416 Posted May 22, 2013 Also I have been having Miso soup- I figure its really a vegetable broth if you strain out the seaweed & tofu. I've always enjoyed miso Soup - it was ESPECIALLY delicious this past week!
bamagirl57 17 Posted May 23, 2013 I am in day 2 of my preop diet. It really has not been bad. I have been eating sugar free Popsicles, sugar free pudding, creamed Soups (cream of chicken tastes like a pot pie to me). I have also kept myself busy to keep from thinking about food. Tomorrow will probably be a different story. I have a faculty luncheon to go to:-/ this is probably where I will lose it! 1 kimgetsleeved reacted to this

rewind 39 Posted May 24, 2013 Programs vary on how long someone should be on a liquid diet. Mine was not that long. I ate light two weeks before, and had liquids for two days before. If you're hungry during your liquid phase (you must be) make sure you're drinking Protein Shakes. I bought the Eas shakes, at Walmart. I'd throw some banana or strawberries in them, with a teaspoon or two of yogurt. Add some crushed ice, and it was a delicious smoothie. There are 17 gms of Protein in the shakes, and it will really help with hunger. I am three months out and down 58 pounds. It has been quite a journey. Good Luck to all of you. jtower97 28 Posted May 26, 2013 On day 4 of my Protein Shake only pre op diet. I'm doing well; better than I thought I would. Each time I think about how hard this is, or I get a little grouchy because I love food and I want to eat, I look at a picture of myself I don't like to remind myself why I am doing this. It has helped me a lot! I have had a lot more head hunger than actual hunger and it does get easier as the days go on. 1 MystiGal reacted to this
MystiGal 143 Posted May 26, 2013 My preop diet was 2 weeks of Protein shakes/bar and a light dinner (5 oz protein and 2 cups vegetables). When it gets hard or you want to "cheat", remind yourself of why you are doing this. How embarrassing would it be if you woke up from surgery only to be told they didnt perform the sleeve because your liver was too large/fatty. Also, the preop diet really helps you mentally prepare for life after surgery. You can do this!! Stay strong!! The only person you would be cheating is yourself. 3 Healthier2day1227, TexasRed1978 and cooldance33 reacted to this
Stephanie McMillan 5 Posted May 26, 2013 My pre op was 10 day clear liquid only with a few Protein Shakes. It's been really hard not having at least 1 meal per day.
