Anyone eating cheviche?

Recommended Posts

I love the stuff and a girl I work with makes it. They grind everything in a meat grinder so the particles in it are super fine. It has only fish, onions, tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, carrots and cucumbers in it. Anyone see anything wrong with it? I'm hoping I'm not fooling myself!

I ate ceviche pretty early out. I had to wait a little while because anything acid really tore me up and first and the tomatoes and peppers were too much. But as soon as I could I ate it and still enjoy it. It's very low calorie and tasty. I've never had any made in a meat grinder. Just chopped fine. Also haven't had it with carrots. I guess its like any other recipe: varies by region and who's making it. A lot of the ceviche I've had also has avocado, but not so much that I worry about the calories.

Isn't there some sort of citrus juice in it? That would be my concern---the acid from the lime or lemon juice. But, it sounds like other people handle it well. Most that I have ever eaten have LOTS of citrus b/c that's what "cooks" (for lack of a better term) the seafood. Good luck!

I'm glad so many of y'all have had it with no problems! I am 8 weeks out but my surgeon still has me on a restricted diet until at least 12 weeks out. I know most people get released to a "regular" diet at 6 weeks but my surgeon has his on guidelines that he uses. I have eaten it a few times this week and it has been great! What I had was actually made with bass and not with shrimp, and it was oh so good!!!!

And I suppose that I have been lucky. My sleeve hasn't minded anything that I have put down it be it super spicy (I eat Tobasco or some sort of hot sauce on just about EVERYTHING) and it doesn't seem to mind the acidic stuff either. Maybe it would be nice for it to be bothered by something so I am not tempted by certain things but it doesn't and I'm working on growing my will power :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
