Is 3cc too much for your first fill?

Recommended Posts

Hi Rica,

I don't recall, so can you remind us what type of band you have? Is it the LapBand (holds 4cc's) or the Swedish Band (holds more, I think about 11cc's, but I cannot remember for sure)?

If you have the LapBand, then I would say that 3 cc's sounds a bit aggressive, but if the doc is doing this under Floro, he/she should be able to see whether it closes you off or not. My doc does not do normal fills under floro and she starts w/ 1cc in a LapBand and only goes up by .5 every 6 weeks. BUT, this is just my doc. I have heard of other LapBand patients that start w/ more of a fill and get to their sweet spots a lot faster.

If you have one of the bands that holds more saline, then 3 cc's is probably a good starting point. Just make sure your doc has you drink Water before you leave and remember you band rules when you first start back on solids and I am sure you will handle it like a champ.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck:D

I don't have a Swedish, but since 5/05/04 I'm now at 3cc and wow what a difference I'm very happy and glad . This should do me for a long time.

I have the lap band and I'm at 1.1cc's and it is doing me just fine. I could not even imagine being at 3cc's I think I would be totally closed up! Everyband and everybody are different though..

Well of course I called my Dr. and he said it was the right amount for the swedish band and He said I could have more but he is coming to Dallas so that he will be in an office and not doing it under flouro.

I know what you mean, I was drinking that stuff under flouro(misspelled) it was going fine and then he said drink Water. I did and it was a hugh difference. I can still do the same as before but of course tighter. I still eat really well. This will be all I will allow myself and he said since I tolerated this good, I won't be needing another. I don't think I want to go back, since this is my 3rd. It is amazing how different it is for all of us.. Ya know?

Hi Rica

I Have an AMI swedish band also made by J&J I believe it is the same type you have.

My first fill was done under flouro and was set at 1.75cc's and I believe I could have had more at that time. My second fill (blind) was 6 weeks later, which put me to 3.7cc's.

I might have to agree that you may be able to handle 3ccs. Please be carefull.

My third and last fill in January put be to 5.7 and I'm having a pretty smooth Summer. I still can't eat what I use to pre-band but I could be tighter.

Good Luck and Congratulations

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
