Should I have a fill? Need advice!

Recommended Posts

I am one month out of surgery and I was told by my nurse to have my first fill this upcoming week the thing is I am leaving the state and am worried that I should wait. I don't know how I will react.

I still feel as if I have a lot of restriction now. So I am afraid if I got the fill I could endure a month of misery while waiting to get home.

Should I call my doc and ask them and does it matter that I am down almost 20 pounds since my last visit to them making my TWL 28 pounds. I mean do you consider weight loss when thinkinkg of a fill.

I also do not want to travel and gain weight I am just not sure what I should do. I have no fill yet and am only due this week. So what do you think. My gut is wrecked over this!

If you feel that you already have adequate restriction then I would wait. You should be able to eat no more than 1 cup of food 3 times per day.

I posted a thread here, use the search tool to find it...I'm not sure how to link it.

The title of the thread is - How to tell when you are pefectly adjusted

It is full of information that should help you decide what to do.

I also waited 2 months after surgery, and had only 1cc put in.

I know my own body, and *I* control what the doc does.

I'd just wait ... there's no big rush on this thing. You sound like you're

doing fine.

Thanks for the advice. I am thinking I am fine this way. I really do not see myself overeating. food is just not mentally enjoyable anymore. I eat if I am starving and I have to. So I think I will be fine.

Once I get back I will probably need one but I think everyone here is right waiting is probably best!

DON'T DO IT. If you have adequate restriction and particularly if you are going to be flying, you will probably get tighter from the flying.

I recently went through an episode where I was too tight and it was a few weeks before I realized it. I went through a few weeks of severe reflux, pbs, and pain before I finally went in and had my fill removed (I'm stubborn and was afraid I would gain weight). I rested for two months with only .5CCs and I still lost 8 pounds anyway before my most recent fill. And my symptoms disappeared within 3 days of my unfill.

If you are away from your doc and something like this happens to you, you will be in misery. There is no rule that says you have to get filled six weeks after surgery, and if you have some restriction you should wait to be safe.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
