Hi, I was banded in 09 and never was able to get good restriction or find the "sweet spot". Then last summer the band slipped and I was approved for band removal. I've been researching the sleeve and approached my doctor to remove the band and then sleeve. My surgeon will not do the removal and sleeve in one surgery and I was very disappointed he would not do it in one surgery and required at least 3 months healing. The band was removed in Sept 2012 and I was sleeved on May 21, 2013. He told me he was very glad he waited, because the scar tissue from the band was no longer an issue and he was successful in preforming the sleeve.

Be patient, it's better to wait and have good results then hurry and have complications that can last for months.

Hello Alyshac, First of all, l I'm so sorry to hear about your lap band trauma! :o My friend has a lap band and she hates it too. She sounds just like you with the pain and the throwing up. I know July seems like a long time to wait, but it will fly by. You made a great decision to do the sleeve it sounds like. I had to move my surgery from June 17th to July 9th and that was frustrating. But it'll give me time to do my "restaurant bucket list". And to get totally ready for my new way of life. I'm going to try different Protein shakes and see which ones I like, things like that. I'm going to sort through my clothes and say goodbye to those super sized ones that I'll never want to lay eyes on again. I'm searching new looks and make over's too. I heard that there is a chance that we can lose a lot of hair after this procedure, so I need to mentally prepare for that possibility. I hope these ideas help a little bit. Good luck to you!

Jiggly Puff totally hit the nail on the head here! You've been hit with a setback, true, but in the next couple of months, you will just become that much more prepared and ready for the Big Day. It will happen--and that is a victory in itself! Just ask some of the folks here who've been told flat-out "NO" by their insurance, or who don't know how or when they'll save up the money needed to do a self-pay procedure. Look at this time as an opportunity to get all your ducks in a row, and try to keep busy by preparing.

It's a speed bump, but you'll power past it in no time--and in a year you'll be a brand new you!

I'm most likely going to be a July sleever too, so welcome to the home stretch!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
