Hi Danyel:

Congratulations and welcome to the banded side! You're absolutely correct to just hold on weighing; this time is for healing. Follow your dr's instructions, walk, sip Water and take your Gas-X. Be sure to post and let us know how you are doing. Take care!

Hi all,

Just wanted to introduce myself. I had the band placed 10/23/07 by Dr. Ortiz in MX, and have my follow-up care through Dr. Mark Pleatman in Bloomfield Hills. I started at 235, and am now at 189... I just found my 'sweet spot' and couldn't be happier with my band!

Well I made it through!!! After I left the hospital I spent the weekend at my parents, they don't have internet (yes they live in the ice age) so I couldn't let you know how things went. The first couple of days sucked but I am feeling much much better today. Lots of discomfort in the port area, I feel a burning tugging feeling when standing up. My stomach is still very bloated, I hope to God it is going to go down soon. I haven't weighed myself figured it would be pointless considering I think that I am retaining all the liquids that I have consumed in the last week. Well thanks for all the support and I will keep you posted.

Take care everyone,

Danielle

Danielle! Welcome to Band-Land! :w00t: I've been away from these forums for a bit, but I had to stop by and see how you were doing. It's so good to hear from you, I hope you are continuing to feel better. Apeters gave you the best after-surgery bandster advice. Please do keep in touch and let us know how you are doing!

Remember, when things seem tough, "Just Keep Swimming!"

*warm (but gentle!) hugs*

Thank you all for the good wishes. I am 11 days out from surgery and have been feeling great. Still on liquids for a couple more days then I get to have mushie food. So any suggestions would be great. I still have some tenderness in my stomach, but I expected that. I'm going to start walking more, I am a bartender so I already do a lot of walking. I have been feeling like I get full very fast even on liquids but I'm sure there is still some swelling.

Can anyone help me get a ticker? I have lost about 13lbs in 2 1/2 weeks so I am very excited and would like to keep track of it.

Thanks again everyone for thoughts!!!

Hello All,

I am completely new to the process, and I'm trying to find out as much information as possible.

I live in East Lansing and I'm really not happy with my primary care doctor, she is against my considering lap-banding....even though I have type-2 diabetes, chronic neck and back pain and a bmi of 40.

With that said I was wondering if anyone could suggest a primary care doctor that they thought was supportive.

Best wishes,

Stacey

Hi Stacey:

I'm in East Lansing too. I had a very supportive primary who was incredibly helpful as I went through the process at Sparrow. Her name is Elizabeth Hughes and she is at Mid-Michigan Physicians on Lake Lansing Road. Her number is 517-913-3980. Let me know if I can provide any other information.

I went through Sparrow Weight Management Center and the surgeon who is affiliated with them is Dr. Pandu Yenumula. He has offices in the Sparrow Professional Building. I feel very comfortable with him; I've received great care! Here's a link about him: Sparrow Health System: Bariatric Surgery

Hi Apeters,

Can you give me any advice on how I should start building a case for my need for the surgery. I would imagine many things are based on the type of insurance a person has, but any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes,

Stacey

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
