Chinese Food

Recommended Posts

I read somewhere that you can't eat Chinese food after being banded. Is this all Chinese food or just rice and noodles? A bunch of us always go for Chinese on New Year's Eve, should I go and just be carefull or take a pass this year. I was banded in September and I have lost 34 pounds.

I can eat rice no problem, chow mein, chop suey......no breaded stuff and it would be wise to stay away from the deep fried, breaded and sugary sauces like lemon and sweet and sour.

I can also eat the wonton Soup, egg drop Soup, and hot & sour soup no problem.

I can eat anything as long as I chew chew chew. I have had the most problems with very soft food. It seems like I forget to chew the soft stuff. Like my mom said "if you are going to be stupid, you had better be tough".

I can eat chinese but I have to choose carefully...I cant eat alot of rice and I generally stick with chicken/fish dishes that are easier to break down...meat/steak and half cooked vegetable slithers don't tend to go down too well.

 becky

Do a trial run before going with the group. Personally I have no problems with chinese food, including the rice. I too chew VERY well. With a trial you will know if the item you order will work or not. It would be easier to suffer through that at home, than out with friends/family.

Good Luck---hope it slides down well!!!

Can't eat any Chinese food, but everyone is different!!! I would not try it for the first time with the group instead I would give it a "trial" run prior to that. Good Luck and if you can eat it, have some for me!!!

I had Chinese for the first time this weekend! It is my biggest downfall. I love it, and not the healthy stuff. The deep fried apps are my favorite.

Anyway, so far, rice is the only food I CANNOT tolerate. It gets stuck big time. I can eat pizza, Pasta, and bread no problem.

btw - I am also up three lbs since my feast! I REALLY need to stay away from it, its what go me where I am today, LOL

I don't eat it even though it's one of my favorites. I just can't help myself when I'm around it. I pig out. And I don't chew like I should. So I stay clear.

Chinese Was My Favorite food Before Lap Band And Unfortunately I Have Tried It Twice And Both Times I Got Horribly Sick. But Everyone Is Different. I Don't Miss It Because Of How Sick I Actually Got On It. There Are Only A Few Foods I Can't Eat And The Others Are Any Type Of bread And Cakes. The Funny Thing Is These Are The Foods I Thought I Couldn't Live Without. Who Knew I Actually Would Be Ok Without Them. Well Best Of Luck. I Was Also Banded In September And Have Lost About The Same As You. Good Luck To You And Have A Great Time Hopefully Eating Chinese On New Years.

sometimes I can't eat it.. sometimes I can. I just never know. THe other night my dog got my entire $8 meal after I PB'd for a third time. At lunch last week I ate everything just fine. It just depends on the day or something.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
