Sleeved w/ Rhuematoid Arthritis and Fybromyalgia

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 6 days ago - on May 15, 2013. I have had a rough time getting back on my feet. My energy is completely depleted and I can barely shower by myself. I am just stuck in the bed. Has anyone else felt like this?

I did. So many people seem to spring back and not need pain meds, but I was really pooped for weeks and needed pain meds for more than a week. Do get up and walk around a little even though you are tired. Be sure to get your fluids and eat your Protein. Both help promote healing. Give yourself time to recover and heal.

Ladies: I am having a lot of trouble getting in my Protein - it sends me straight to the bathroom and run right through me. Water - probably only 12 ounces a day right now.

I was diagnosed with Lupus nearly 20 years ago. I have not had a flare up since surgery almost 3 months ago. I also do not take any meds for my Lupus. Steroids made me crazy and made me gain weight. All the other meds were just trial and their was always something new and It just was not worth it to me. I would rather get through a day or so of pain then take a pill everyday for something I dont feel every day. As for the energy preop somedays every so often I would feel 100% cant get out of bed exhaustion, some days I would wake up with the lupus rash on my face. Im not saying that loosing weight is a cure for Lupus obviously its not, When I was diagnosed I weighed 135-140. And its the normal course to go in and out of remission. I am telling you this becuase fibromyalgia and Lupus seem to be similar, my mom was first diagnosed with fibromyalgia, only to be later diagnosed with Lupus.

Lupus is not a one blood test, it takes a series of tests over a period of time to come up with the final diagnosis.

My energy level is dependent on the amount of sleep I get, the amount of excersize, the amount of Protein and Vitamins I take. Sometimes It just doesent matter and I am not good for that day. Good luck with your journey. Lupus and Fibromyalgia ppl are silent sufferers, no one can see the amount of pain and exhaustion you endure, and it can be mentally very difficult.

I DON'T have rheumatoid or fibromyalgia, and I didn't do much better at first. I had to rest after I showered, and while I wasn't in the bed, I was in a chair, a lot. It does get better, and the aches and pains I had are gone. It's so much easier doing everything when you weigh less.

The diarrhea is common post-op, but check with your Dr. I remember they told me to watch and see if it was staying as bad or getting worse.

I was lactose intolerant post-op. The only Protein Powder I tolerated well the first few days was unjury. After the first week, I did well with GNC Gold Standard whey. I mixed it with Soy milk.

Amma,

I just noticed you are only drinking very little Water. I used a shot glass and a timer to get my Water in at first. One ounce sipped over 15 minutes Makes 4 ounces per hour. Teeny sips; take the whole 15 minutes to finish the ounce. I preferred room temp water. Not to cold or hot.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
