I have heard a few different posts mention the amount of stomach removed. 70-85% is what I have been hearing. Is there a standard to the size of the remaining sleeve. If there is a choice ....Who makes it?

I think it all depends on your surgeon....My surgeon told a member of our support group that her stomach was the size of his thumb...holds approx 2 oz.

I was told 85% of my stomach was taken out. I can drink an 11oz Protein Shake or 1 Quest Protein Bar. I can eat 2 oz of dense Protein with a couple bits of veggies. Love my sleeve. :) My head hunger I do not like very much.....I can eat every couple of hours and try not too. :) I've heard of the sleeve being the shape of a banana, not a the size of a thumb..... LOL :)

I was told the banana thing as well on my pre-op appts. But since surgery, I've been able to eat more than most sleevers. I think mine is more like the size of at least 2 bananas put together.....maybe 3.

Oh and the size of the remaining stomach after the fundus (the stretchy part) is taken out differs from person to person.. Example a tall man will have a longer/ bigger stomach than a petite woman.

The doctor will know what to do and his main goal is to take out ALL of the fundus..

Mine said 7/8 of my stomach is removed and it is as wide as his thumb! I can eat about 5 oz oz soft foods right now.

Well I just saw my sleeve in an xray and it looks like my esophagus just goes all the way down to my intestines lol! Just a straight tube. The thumb is roughly the size of one ounce of cheese or meat so I think that's inaccurate. I was told my sleeve can hold 4-6 oz.

I was told my sleeve would hold about 4-6 oz including 1/4 cup of vegetables

You can find out for sure by doing the cottage cheese test, which is a valid test in the bariatric community... http://www.bsciresourcecenter.com/proddetail.php?prod=A4

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
