BuffBride 3 Posted May 21, 2013 Hi, I am wondering if any of you have regrets about having your sleeve surgery? I am researching the gastric sleeve. I have had a gastric band - which has now been removed and was a disaster from start to finish! I wish I would have researched the gastric band before getting it fitted so I am being very thorough now. Please be as honest as possible X x
SpaceDust 585 Posted May 21, 2013 There are several threads that talk about regrets here in the forums - to get started while waiting for answers try searching for the word regrets. Is a question that comes up every few weeks. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 using VST 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this

Webchickadee 716 Posted May 21, 2013 Only regret is not doing this sooner.....I love my sleeve!!!! Ditto on that! I have been obese (and morbidly so) since I was 10 years old. I'm 43 now. In the past year (my surgiversary just passed), I have lost 137 lbs and I'm 47 lbs from goal. It's had its challenges, but for the most part, pre and post-op have been fairly straight forward (no complications, minimal pain). The biggest regret for me was also not doing it a long long time ago. I would do this again 1000x and I had my surgery in Mexico (self-pay). 4 Molly3, pottergirl, victoria77 and 1 other reacted to this
MichiganChic 3,262 Posted May 21, 2013 I don't have any regrets at 5 months out. I don't know if I'll ever lose another pound, but with 78 pounds gone, I feel so much better. The first couple of months I wasn't so sure because I felt pretty bad, and worried all the time about potential complications. I had an infection for the first 7 weeks post op, and leaks and DVTs (blood clots) can occur during that time, too. I was fortunate, my infection healed with no lasting issues, and I had no other complications. Now I live a pretty normal life. My advice to you is to read the complications forum threads. You'll get a pretty good idea of what can and does happen to real people. If you can live with the possibility of those things happening, then at least you'll have made an informed decsion. While the risks are low, when you are the one with the complication, it's 100% all you. There are people who had serious complications and lived to tell about it, and still don't regret thier decision, but some do. It's all about knowing YOUR risk tolerance 3 Molly3, ProudGrammy and Pixie Dust reacted to this
brandy88 151 Posted May 21, 2013 No regrets and if your worried you will you need to take more time to think about. It's a major choice, and a life changing one. I have been lucky no vomiting, or gas etc. and I can handle all foods but others can't so all depends on person. I read up on and was on forums for almost a year before I was sleeved. I'm happy with my choice, even tho people passed judgement on me for having each person knows there own personal struggles. I'm little over two months out down 43.3 lbs and everyday get closer to what I want. Best of luck 3 victoria77, Molly3 and ProudGrammy reacted to this
minxie 13 Posted May 21, 2013 The first couple of weeks I regretted it - I was SO tired, couldn't eat, threw up a lot. Turns out my sleeve was too tight. Once that was fixed, I bounced back quickly! I am 6 months out and am almost 100 lbs lighter. I'm training for a 5k this August. I have confidence and am loving every inch of myself. It's not easy, but it is SO worth it! Literally, this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. 5 Molly3, Ms skinniness, ProudGrammy and 2 others reacted to this
LindaS 316 Posted May 21, 2013 No regrets here. I'm almost 2 years out (surgery day Aug. 9, 2011). I feel great and am able to do so much more. The only thing that is a downer is that my teenage girls now borrow my clothes. 5 Molly3, ProudGrammy, sharonintx and 2 others reacted to this
ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted May 21, 2013 regrets about having your sleeve surgery? BuffBride regrets - are you kidding me!!!! i'm 17 months PO - Goal past 5 months i am enjoying, living my healthier happier life no complications PO!!!! its good to receive personal responses from others - i/we don't mind but - agreed check out various regret boards OP did have physical problems PO - and i get their feelings - some others wished they hadn't had the WLS cuz they miss food in general!!! that i don't get!!! MOST people love, love, love their sleeve - only regret they didn't do it earlier nothing is usally eating - you have to work with your sleeve so it can work with you - for the rest of your life good for you on doing your "homework" !!!! be prepared in all aspects of the different ways you will be eating and drinking - this is for the rest of your longer, healthier, happier life ie the Water "rules" very important that you will eat in small quantities but---- you will eventually be able to eat any type of food - in a teeny amount the sleeve is the best thing since white bread!!! (but now bread will not be one of the best foods to eat) take care good luck kathy 4 Ms skinniness, Rox, pottergirl and 1 other reacted to this

kulita 243 Posted May 21, 2013 If people do have regrets it may be because they were not well informed of this surgery, they experienced a complication that they didn't expect, or they are not following their DR & NUT's orders and are not loosing a lot of weight. Some other things to think of is the mental aspect of the surgery. You will see others eating all sorts of things..... and you will most likely want to join them but you can't because of the phase you are in or you are too full from your Protein. Head hunger will mess with you. Use it to your advantage though, when others are eating and it is time to eat, eat with them. Bring your own Protein friendly snack box. Remember you are no longer the person you used to be- you are in control. {{{hugs}}} & <3 5 Molly3, Rox, ProudGrammy and 2 others reacted to this
