$25000 Surgery Cost, what did you pay?

Recommended Posts

4500 with Dr. Almanza 25000 that's outrageous ill would have stayed a fat person if faced with that choice. They is a doctor in San Antonio that only charges 10k

There's no way I couldve done that out of pocket either. My insurance paid for all but my $550 deductible.

My insurance has a "cap" of $1,000 out of pocket per year, so that is all I had to pay for the whole thing. I can't remember the exact amount the insurance paid, but I believe it was around $18,000.

I finally got all my bills for the surgery, hospital bills, surgeons bill, anesthiologist bill, lab bill, radiologist bill. The hospital cost about 26,000 which I have to pay nothing because I met my out of pocket expenses for that. My other bills I had to pay a total of $400 for co-insurance. I have really good insurance but I pay a lot each month for it!

My total surgical costs were about $20-22,000 ( including the surgical team cost, hospital stay, medicines, etc) but my out of pocket was only about $1500.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
