wesc04 6 Posted May 21, 2013 I am scheduled for my sleeve on may 31st. How long after can I get back in the gym? I like to mix up my cardio with oliptical, stairmaster and precor and rowing. Is walking going to be my only cardio for the first couple of weeks or so? Please enlighten me - thanks everyone
Diane_65 11 Posted May 21, 2013 My Dr. told me to only do walking. Nothing strenuous at all till about 6 weeks post op. Anything that will make you strain or stretch your abs is kinda out till healing has taken place. Each Dr. is different, so I would consult them if I were you! Best of Luck on your surgery!!!! bradycone 94 Posted May 21, 2013 Like the previous poster, I am supposed to do only walking for the first few weeks. At 4 weeks out I can do normal everyday activities, but no heavy workouts for 6-8 weeks.

Is walking going to be my only cardio for the first couple of weeks or so? Please enlighten me - thanks everyone[/quote'] Hi!! I was sleeved 4/16/13 so I am 5 weeks post-op. Except for the past 4 years (I'm 46 years old) I was an exercise fanatic, so with my new, healthy lifestyle I wanted to get back to gym post-haste. However, I am just walking 3 miles daily (fast-pace: 18 minute mile averaging for 3 miles). That's as strenuous as I can get because my abdominal area is still tender---and I can "feel" my stapled new stomach when I over-do things like mopping the floor...etc. anything that strains my abdomen. I have another follow-up doctors appt on my 6 week post-op and I'll ask about working my abdominal area. On that note, I am a Reg. Nurse who works "on the floor" hence a very physically demanding job. My doctor just released me TODAY (5 weeks post-op) to return to work. I realize that I must be gentle with my new tummy and I will NOT do anything to jeopardize the major surgery I went through to get here. I hope this info helps you. I get great cardio with my fast paced walks-- and that's good enough until I get released to do more!

I'd definitely avoid the stairmaster and rowing until 4 to 6 weeks out.
