Guest Posted May 21, 2013 I am 13 days away from having surgery but I have an awful case of tonsillitis. Yesterday and today I have been taking an 800 mg Motrin for the pain & swelling. My tonsils are very inflamed and tender. If it doesn't get better by tomorrow I am making an appointment. It's so bad it's blocking my airway at night and waking me up- acting similar to sleep apnea. Question is, is it harmful to take NSAIDs this close to surgery? Is it the risk of bleeding they are concerned about? And yes I can also call my surgeon, but I figured I would ask here first. Thanks for any advice ... :0)
Veruca Salt 31 Posted May 21, 2013 Each surgeon is different but most of them do not want you to take any NSAIDS this close. I would tell you to speak to your surgeon. He after surgery you will need a medical braclet notifiying emergency medical that you are a patient and that you can not have a NG tube placed blindly and you can not have NSAIDS. Guest Posted May 21, 2013 Thanks. Wound up going to the ER last night. Turns out I have strep & an ear infection. I got a penicillin shot and some decadron. I felt awful, knew something wasn't right. On the mend now... Thank goodness, only 12 days now.
