thedivinemsQ 89 Posted May 21, 2013 Hi there, hair stylist or anyone in the service industry too! My surgery date is June 13 and I'm scheduled to be back to work June 25th. My concern is Water consumption while working on clients. I was seriously considering a sports beer drinking helmet, but then realized I can't use a straw. How have you coped with this challenge. I was thinking that sucking ice cubes would be better than stopping a cut or color every every 3 minutes to take a sip of water... Help

Help I would so let you cut and color my hair while you are wearing a beer helmet! It would make for a fun time! lol! I would suggest get a huge insulated mug and big straw and just leave it close and then not even pick it up to drink. Just take your mouth to it. Or use a bikers back that have the straws on your shoulder. That would be conversation material. :-) 1 thedivinemsQ reacted to this
newat52 1,613 Posted May 21, 2013 I started using a straw early. It helped me get in more Water. Did not give me gas at all. Some people have straws in the hospital. 1 thedivinemsQ reacted to this
thedivinemsQ 89 Posted May 21, 2013 My doctor seems to be VERY anti straw... I hope I don't have issues with them because that would make life quite a bit easier like our above examples of the biker's bottles or drink helmet
Nicolanz 1,484 Posted May 21, 2013 I have a big ol Water jug at my station and drink from while doing my client's hair. They don't mind and it's actually my trademark LOL! Even before surgery, I'm always drinking water. They make fun of my green jug and if it's not there, they ask where it is! 1 thedivinemsQ reacted to this
amandalynn76 15 Posted May 21, 2013 I'm a stylist. I had my surgery 5/13 and I can drink pretty well. I am going to give myself a few extra minutes between clients so I can take time to drink. If you get a lot of colors you can focus on drinking while they are processing. You will be surprised how much Water you can get in after a week. Well at least I feel I can get a lot in. It's the food that's hard to get down for me. I'm a week out and feel great. I just have a little tenderness where the incision sites are. Happy styling! amandalynn76 15 Posted May 21, 2013 I also use a straw and have been fine. I just try not to sip too big 1 thedivinemsQ reacted to this
jlteaford 8 Posted May 21, 2013 Look at something like a camel back water bottle. It is a straw but the liquid does not go back down so you don't get the air. I used one of these right after surgery at the beginning and had no problems as all. I use a straw occassionally now and have not had any problems. My surgeon said after about 3 months it becomes a personal decision. 1 thedivinemsQ reacted to this

Francieb 15 Posted June 10, 2013 My surgery is scheduled for July 2nd. I'm a hairdresser, and I drink Water constantly. I can't see that it's going to be a problem. I am only taking ten days off. Is that a reasonable amount of time?

I do suggest spacing your clients out a bit or working a half day for a few days. I just felt a little tired. I also had no complications after surgery. Also, make sure to give yourself enough time to eat and drink. But you could also do that while your colors are processing too. Hope this helps. thedivinemsQ 89 Posted June 10, 2013 I've booked 12 days off...everyone is so different so I have no idea what would be good...my week back I booked pretty light though, so it should be ok. And then summer is not as busy for me so it should be plenty of time to ease back in. I keep hearing people are so tired after surgery and some for. Long time, and that freaks me out.
