Post-Op Day 5: Worried I feel too normal!

Recommended Posts

Surgery was May 16th, and I'm supposed to be on full liquids for 2 weeks, pureed foods for 2 weeks, mushy food for 2 weeks, and then normal food. But it is day 5 and I've had NO trouble getting anything down, and I've had some thicker stuff that was on the pureed list.... And I even had a bite of salmon yesterday... and some Tomato Soup (that I unknowingly ate not realizing I'm not supposed to have because of the sugar and possibility of dumping) and I had NO issues with it......... I know it's good that I'm not having trouble, but it makes me feel like something is wrong. I mean, I am eating 4 oz. at a time like I'm told, and eating slowly, but still........... Is this bad??

I never had any trouble eating anything! Just take it slow & easy...you will learn your limits & when to stop.

I was sleeved same day as you and am having more difficulty getting in my liquids and Protein. It took me two hours to finish one Protein shake today. :faint:

Just curious as I am on the same diet process as you... Why are you choosing to move forward so quickly? No judgement, just curious. I'm afraid to damage my healing staple line by not sticking to the plan.

I was also sleeved same day and had a leak scare. Try not to go there its not worth it. Having lots of trouble figuring out this hungry vs full thing.

Your new tummy can't feel the restriction yet because it's swollen and trying to heal, that's why taking things to fast can cause damage. Go read some of the horror stories about some of the folks who took it to fast. It's not worth it.

well, i didn't intentionally get into the thicker food. i kind of just realized today that some of the thicker stuff i've had is technically in the pureed phase. it's sort of a thin line between full liquids and pureed.....

but also i think i'm less cautious because i feel so normal. i'm not really intentionally trying to go against the rules, but since i FEEL normal, i'm not thinking about it as much as i probably should.

Tomato Soup with skim milk or just Tomato Soup Oscar ok as long as you get the low sodium-at least on mine it is. The rest......your taking a chance:(. I was sleeved on the 15th and I know what your going through-I sometimes think about eating something I shouldn't but so far I am doing ok. Good luck!

this is a very good point. thank you. i guess i just expected to be in more pain and have more trouble. i need to keep reminding myself that my stomach is still healing and not normal yet. despite how normal it feels.

Gosh, I was sleeved on 5/15 and my husband wanted some popeye's spicy fried chicken. OMG, I told him I will ride with you to pick it up. Well I had two spoons of mashed potatoes and gravy and lordy was it good!

I know what you mean. I have not had any pain either. I have a hard time sipping slowly enough. I was told that it takes a while for the nerves in your stomach to recover. Remember the open part of your stomach is still the size of a coffee stirrer. Also it was explained to me that pills can push their way through because they are hard, but that soft or sticky things can just get really stuck and plug you up.

I would love to have salmon and mash potatoes. I would love to eat the puréed food. Pure fear and the unknown keeps me from moving forward. Having the sleeve should keep us discipline not to go back into our habits or obsession with food. I was sleeve on 5/14 and still on my Clear Liquids. It's not worth the risk.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
