I normally just read to get help from the forum, but I am in desperate need of help with some suggestions with food choices. I am 8 weeks out today and down 40lbs, and I am very happy about that, but all I am eating is Protein. I havent had fruit, vegetable starches or anything in 8 weeks. I need to incorporate a balance diet as well as keep getting in my protein. I am trying to only drink at least one Protein Shake a day. As a result of too much protein and not enough Fiber (I guess) I have become extremely constipated, and as a result of the Constipation my stomach is in major pain as well as a lower region that Im sure everyone gets  . I am so miserable right now and need some meal suggestions.

I combine vegetables with my Protein. example wrap turkey in lettuce leaves add tomatoes if you like it. 2 oz fish, chicken or beef strips with a 1/2 cup salad. Hummos chick pea dip with chicken and a little salad is good. Measure 2 oz of protein add 2 oz of vegtables. half half. You can also have any piece of fruit as a snack, apples ,cherries, watermelon.Having a food scale really helps :)for Constipation I increase fluids and use myralax or milk of magnesium for constipation. lately I have been eating 2 fiber one brownies to get things moving. I put them in the freezer they taste better. Good luck :)

What I do to get some veggies and fiber in is to get some vanilla Protein, mix it with fat free milk, add some fruit to it and blend it. its filling, good Protein, fruits, and tastes good.

What I am about to try because a friend recommended it, was to do unflavored protein and put veggies into the blender with the protein and add one sweet tasting fruit to it to cut the protein taste. I am 9ish weeks out and I am in your same boat

also, I do the Protein blends like this because I work 12 hour shifts and it's hard for me to sit down and eat. it's a good quick fix

Try mixing 2tbsp of chia seed into your Protein Shake. That'll really help you getting regular again.

Make sure you are getting plenty of hydration. Chia will absorb lots of moisture.

Hi there,

Here's how I incorporated fruits and veggies early out:

Yogurt shake for breakfast: greek non-fat yogurt, a couple of strawberries, a splash of OJ, bigger splash of Water, and some Splenda.

Melons for snack:Watermelon and cantelope both sat well.

Applesauce cups: another good snack

1/3 bananna: snack

Frozen peas and carrots: Cooked them alongside whatever Protein I was having

Zucchini: cut off a few slices with a mandoline slicer and cooked them alongside whatever Protein I was having

Soups: Split Pea, Veggie, Tomato, Butternut Squash

Peppers and onions, spinach: Added to sandwich after I could tolerate bread again

Spinach: wilt and serve under protein

I couldnt eat much because early on protein took almost all my room, but I love veggies and fruit and would have felt deprived without any.

To control Constipation, I used a fiber supplement, benefiber and Colace stool softener.

Have you read the blog, "The World According to Eggface"? She has some of her meals on there and incorporates veggies and fruit.< /sub>

I am 11 weeks out so I am still learning too but I have a morning to "go to" shake. 1 scoop of vanilla Protein powder, 1/2 a small banana. I pre slice and freeze them to make my shakes a bit thicker. I add about 6 oz of skim milk, 3 or 4 frozen strawberries or a small handful of frozen blueberries. Just a splash of Water and about 1/2 teaspoon of Miralax and blend it up. It tastes wonderful and a great way to get some fruits and fiber in. This is the most carbs I consume at one time but the good mix of Protein and carbs gets my day off to a great start. It does take almost an hour to get it down.

For lunch and dinner, I usually just have room for protein and some veggie/fruit. I do 2 bites of protein and one bite of veggies/fruits. I love to just have a couple of strawberries on the side of the protein or some steamed broccoli. I have been keeping it simple. I also have one small prune with lunch and dinner. It helps. Good thing I like them. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
