Newbie and Getting Sleeved TODAY....

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm so glad I found this blog for sleevers, I don't have a big support group and this looks like a great place to be ... I live in Texas (dfw) and getting sleeved today ... I'm so excited and yet very nervous. It's taken me some time to consider if this would be a good option for me because I have chronic neuro pain disease called RSD (Reflux Sympathetic Dystrophy) that I got from a foot surgery so just the idea of going thru another surgery is very scary to me but since my disease I've gained over 100 pounds and since my mobility is not what it use to be I really feel this is my best option.. Thanks for reading my post and looking forward to joining this great group..

YAY YOU!! I am four days post op and I will be honest and tell you that day 2 sucks butt. If you can stay in the hospital, do. I left day one and while I am fine, I was absolutely useless as home. I am fortunate to have low maintenance kids who can look after themselves at 13 and 15, but if you aren't in the same situation, stay a day longer and let them take care of you.

Keep us posted on how you do!

Welcome!! Very excited for you to begin your journey, and know that we are always here for you if you need to vent, whine, or ask a question that has already been asked 100 times. This is a difficult endeavor but one that is well worth it! Just remember the saying "Nothing worth doing ever comes easy". Good luck to you!

Thank you ALL so much. My day has been frustrating. I got to hospital and they had complications with scheduling (not sure how) and then my insurance just recently converted to a Cobra plan so they thought my insurance had changed so since the hospital took HOURS trying to get their mess figured out I could NOT get my surgery today. I was so upset and frustrated and mad and Grrrrrr! My surgeon came out personally to speak with me and my family and apologized and said she will do my surgery Thurs or Friday. Now I'm way more nervous than I was before....

Everything happens for a reason! You were not meant to have surgery that day. Good luck!

So sorry your surgery had to be rescheduled. That sucks. Hang in there, it'll happen soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
