pottergirl 261 Posted May 20, 2013 Just tried the high Protein tofu from trader Joe's. It's 14 g p for about 3 oz.and it's very firm which keeps it from falling apart. Also marinated it in their soyaki marinade. Really good! 1 Ms. Brightside reacted to this
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted May 20, 2013 I understand that tofu tastes like whatever it is marinated in, but what is the texture like? I am so scared to try it when it is my time.
aquitenonnymouse 206 Posted May 20, 2013 I understand that tofu tastes like whatever it is marinated in, but what is the texture like? I am so scared to try it when it is my time. I really like the texture of tofu. It's firm, but smooth and soft. Contradictory? Yes. I really like it pressed, sliced into 1/2" slices, and marinated in soy sauce, garlic, and hot pepper flakes, and then pan fried until it becomes darkened. Then top it with a little reduced marinade mixed with orange juice, a little brown sugar (or honey or agave), and grated ginger. Yummy! You can also lightly coat it with corn starch before putting it in the frying pan to give it a bit of a crust when it cooks.

NMJG 1,266 Posted May 20, 2013 High Protein tofu? I'll get some! I love tofu anyway. For those who haven't used it, here are some easy things to do. Also, tofu comes in several forms: silken/soft (good for plain eating or blending), firm or extra firm (good for keeping it's shape, like grilling). Serve it very cold with soy sauce sprinkled over it and some chopped green onions or chives. Throw it into anything with Tomato sauce. You can break it up, blend it, or leave it in 1" to 1/2" chunks. The sauce completely flavors it. Fry it as described above. Marinate it in light Salad Dressing for 1/2 hour and broil, grill, or fry it. Also good in a kebab with veggies. Put cubes of it in stir fry with veggies.
No game 14,437 Posted May 20, 2013 Or dry fry, it's my preferred way! I just eat it cold after as a snack or dip it in hummus. 1 NMJG reacted to this
No game 14,437 Posted May 20, 2013 Dry fry? To dry fry, I cut up my tofu and SLOW fry it with no oil or butter on a non stick griddle or you can use a cast Iron pan. I fry it on a lower heat to get the moisture out and crisp it up. I buy mine at trader joes (extra firm) Also after you dry fry it you can do different things with it...like marinade in anything (it is tasteless so will soak up any flavor) and stir fry with veggies I like it marinaded sometimes but I will also eat it just straight from the fridge cold after dry frying it 1 LipstickLady reacted to this
