Mirena IUD vs. Birth control pills

Recommended Posts

Also, you're supposed to double up on birth control the first 18-24 months. My surgeon strongly recommends a barrier method with pills/implant. However from personal experience, condoms and NuvaRing are tricky. Not hard, just tricky. And I had a friend with implanon that had seizures, weight gain, and pregnancy. It's all your choice though. Just remember to double up!

Talk to your midwife or OB/GYN. I know you have ruled out IUD as an option - but I worked as an ob research nurse for 10 years and we did MANY IUD studies and the stories you are hearing are NOT common, in my experience. (We did pure research, ie not paid for by any drug company). Also, for anyone considering an IUD it is much better to have it inserted when you are on your period - it is much less uncomfortable.

I got and love it. I actually had no issues with the Pill but had to go off of for surgery. I'm pre op and got off of it well in advance.

I also have PCOS. Can't comment on the fertility issue as I haven't tried because I don't want kids, ever! But my symptoms have been okay. I have seen an increase in acne but have managed to keep it down by changing my skin care regimen. No biggie.

Yeah I'm totally not getting it . Too many stories about not being able to have babies afterwards :-/ yikes! Thanks for everyone's advice though!

What about the Nuvaring? I've been on Nuvaring for years and its amazing. Insert for three weeks and remove for a week for your period and then insert a new one. Very simple and I had no side effects from it.

I have the Nexplanon - it's in my right arm right under my skin. It's good for three years and uses progesterone - I love it- get really light or no periods and hasn't affected anything.

Yeah the nexplanon works a lot like Mirena. Progesterone only, slowly released, lasts for years. The only difference is that it's not in the uterus.

Nexplanon was not offered to me by my ob gyn. If it were, I probably would have done it. For now, I'm happy with my Mirena.

Before having mirena I had no period..because of my weight going up n down!! Once mirena was put in my periods became clock work every 29-30 days..it actually moved n I became pregnant n miscarried at 13 weeks 2 weeks after I found out I was pregnant...I wouldnt recommend the 10 yr iud because alot of woman that get pregnant on the iud have the paraguard..even if my mirena would have still be in I would of had to remove it because of clotting risk after surgery. .mirena can be great but it wasnt for me..good luck

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
