3.5 months out - Need Help with Fatigue and B12 vitamin...Please and thanks

Recommended Posts

so I had sleeve surgery 3 and 1/2 months and i feel ok. i've lost 90lbs so far but here's the thing. i'm always tired/exhausted. i'll admit, i don't always get my Protein in and sometimes i miss my Calcium but i always drink Water, always take my Flinstones Vitamins and B12...i just want to know, is this normal ??? i'll also admit between working 50 hours a week and having a 15 month old and a pregnant wife, i don't always get to the gym, so maybe i don't exercise enough?? i'm just worried. also my hair started to thin out a bit and fall out a bit so my doctor said take a B-Complex with Biotin.....but do i take that plus the sublingual Vitamin B12 ????

do you think if i drink more Protein Shakes and exercise more, do you think the fatigue will end? maybe increase the H2O some more ?? please help thanks

If you do take the B complex with the sublingual B12, it's ok. B12 is a Water soluble Vitamin so what doesn't get used, gets flushed by your body. So in a way, it's better to take too much than too little...unlike with the fat soluble Vitamins.

It sounds like you're really, really busy and you've lost a LOT of weight in a short time. If I were in your place, I'd try to up my calories for a while, not only in Protein, but carbs AND fat.

I take the Flinstones as well, I was taking Celebrate bariatric and when comparing the 2 they had almost the same ingredients. The doctor actually approved them. I take 2 flinstones a day, even sAys on the bottle adults take two. I just have to add extra B12, which u already do.

I think you just have a heavy work/ life load. Try to take some you time if you can find it, easier said then done (I know I chase around a 2yr old all day).

Maybe try to add extra Iron or a supplement if possible. Good luck

My doc gives me B12 in a shot. Says much more effective that way. I also had b1/thiamine deficiency that caused a lot of fatigue and stalls.in weight loss.

I am pre-op but children's Vitamins were also on my doctor's approved supplement list. I figured I might as well start taking them, to get in the habit of daily supplements while I still have some time.

The ones I use are CVS Pharmacy brand (cheaper than brand name) and are considered "complete daily vitamins". I just checked the label and they recommend a half tablet for children under 4 years of age, and only a single tablet for adults. The single tablet daily values are exactly what my NUT recommended, and they are much less expensive than bariatric-specific vitamins.

I also take a sublingual B12 Vitamin for an extra 500mcg per dose. The label on that one says adults can take it up to five times a day; and it doesn't taste bad at all. It's actually less vitamin-y than the children's chewables.

Since I'm still pre-op, my results probably aren't exactly the same as someone who's post-op, but I've noticed better sleep and better skin, and a little more resilience to exhaustion. I'm not running marathons, but I'm less wiped-out at the end of a day with 50 middle schoolers, and that's something!

I hope you are able to get a little more rest--it sounds like your schedule is really full--and boost your calories/protein as some of the vets here have suggested. Once that baby is born, you'll definitely need all the energy you can possibly scrape together! ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
