JessicaAnn 564 Posted May 19, 2013 Look up the term "acanthosis nigricans" (I probably spelled that wrong). That's exactly what it looks like, thank you!! It seems to say that it will get better as I lose weight. I hope so!
kiki1196 101 Posted May 19, 2013 Does it feel any different? Like the skin is more tough or leathery? My doc said its a sign of obesity but does go away with weight loss. I'd have it checked out though. Best of luck!

SheWins1 207 Posted May 21, 2013 When's your next doctor visit? Might be worth mentioning--especially if there's a family history. It sounds like it might be hormonal (pregnancy/PCOS causing similar issues)' date=' if it's definitely not related to diabetes.Any reason to think your hormones might be a little off balance? For example, do you take an oral contraceptive? Here's a link about acanthosis nigricans (darkening skin in the areas you mentioned): http://www.livestrong.com/article/191588-dark-skin-in-groin-area/ Vix. You nailed it on the head! I have this as well, it sucks! My doctor told me the same thing that's mentioned in your link. 1 Vixynne reacted to this
jessinoz4 15 Posted May 21, 2013 I agree with some of the other comments - you should talk to your doctor about PCOS. What you are describing is acanthosis nigricans and it is usually seen in people with insulin resistance (a major part of PCOS) and obesity...trust me, I have it too and I am very fair. Once managed, the dark Patches will fade over time becoming less and less noticeable. 1 SheWins1 reacted to this
