what post opt diet to follow?

Recommended Posts

I know the doctor gives you a post op diet but why is it different from another doctor? They give you the same one that they give to everybody else regardless of the surgery. So do I really need to follow the one my doctor gave me? I don't feel it's as important as following one of the diets especially because what they gave me in the hospital was loaded with sugar and carbs, the diet on paper they gave me said don't do this. (My surgery was done in Mexico, so i cant talk to the doctor). I'm day 10 and in need of something other than Clear Liquids. I see a lot of diets where you can have oatmeal and eggs after 3 to 7 days.

I am 13 days post op and had a scrambled egg and oatmeal by day 8. Each doctor is different, not sure why. I am now on pureed to soft as tolerated.

Each doctor goes by what they think will give you the best chance to heal with out extra complications. However, just like everybody's body is different some people can tolerate soft pureed foods sooner, while others cannot. You doctor recommends what he/she thinks is the best way to go about it. For me, i was only on clear liquids while in the hospital. as soon as i was home i was allowed full liquids which included things like yogurt and cottage cheese. At the 3 week mark i was allowed soft solids like eggs, tuna, canned chicken, cheese etc. I think you could be just fine with full liquids at this point. but be sure to take it slow. you don't want to cause a leak!

This is my doctors nutrition page on his website. There are several PDF files that you can open and print, each explaining facts on nutrition after bariactric surgery, phase 1 post-op to phase 5 post-op (each phase tells you the # of days), and there is even one on dumping syndrome.

Hope this helps.

I got my surgery in mexico, the only juice they had was full of sugar, mostly apple, they also gave us otter pops and broth. I couldn't keep Water down, I tried ice too, I couldn't even eat the otter pops because of the water. So I did apple juice, broth and vitiwater for 5 days. Now back home, I'm on the same pattern only with good apple juice and ice pops that are low sugar.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
