Important Milestones

Recommended Posts

It's really hard to remember where everyone is at ala pre-op hoops jumped over, surgery date, weight loss pre-op, weight loss at 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, yearly, etc. Plus other milestones that happen ... like Chris got married since this group began.

I'd like to share those important milestones in one place where we can keep of track of who's doing what and offering our praise and support. Its helpful and comforting to know what we're all going through. Usually, no matter how bad it may be, it usually gets better even if all you say is you're in a stall and when it started.

I want us to be as informed as possible. We learn from each other.I don't yet have anything to discuss right now. But I'll start by posting where I'm at today. I hope you do the same

Kate - Pre-op. Waiting for surgery date. Lost 35 lbs. 5/19.

Coco - 8 wks post op. Lost 35 lbs. 5/24

Congratulations on the 35 lbs lost. I know you have really had a lot of hoops to jump through. I too, had to do the nuclear stress test before my surgery. I had a heart attack about 6 years ago, so I was nervous about it too. Praise the lord that everything turned out ok for me. I am now 8 wks post op and have lost 35 lbs. I have been slow so far to lose, but that is because I have not been able to be active. My doc just prescribed Water therapy that I am starting today. Hope that will jump start the weight loss more.

Coco - I love your attitude and appreciate your congratulating me on my meager loss. Water therapy sounds wonderful. Is that the same as Water aerobics?

Hey -- I need the skinny on your stats, i.e. Date of Surgery, specifically.

Very happy to hear your surgery went ok. It is my only concern -- whether my heart will be ok. I don't yet have the final word on whether I need to do the nuclear stress test ... and that's "stressing" me out! :o

My surgery date was 3/25/13. I have now lost 38 lbs. I thought I would be losing more since I weighed so much, but I think the inactivity and age have hindered me a little.

I started water therapy, and no it it not really like water aerobics. There is a physical therapist who guides the exercised that you do. It feels so good to be in water. One thing that I am hoping for after I lose more weight is to be able to get in a bath tub and get in and out. I have so many physical problems, so I need to take baby steps toward activity. It had gotten to where all I could do is sit in a chair all day. I decided I did not want to live "the chair" life anymore.

I have not gotten out in several years to have a social life, so I have no friends anymore. I am not a person to just get out there and make friends easily, so it is so nice to have you all here to talk to.

The day of surgery was a little rough with gas pains and high blood pressure, but by the 2nd day I was very much better. I am glad I had this done and think it will save my life. My doctors have told me I only had a limited amount of time left if I did not lose weight.

Thanks for inviting me into this group. What a good idea. Sometimes (mostly) I just don't relate to a lot of the posting from the 20-30 year olds. I have been sleeved since Jan 9, 13. I reached my goal in Dec losing 81 lbs!! Now I'm working at keeping it off. Please feel free to ask me any ?'s.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
