I go to my Nut tomorrow for my 2 week post op appt. I am supposed to be able to start pureed foods this week as well. I am sure she will give me some ideas/recipes but I am anxious to know what types of food I will be able to eat. Are there any forums for sharing recipes or meal ideas??? Down 17 lbs since surgery May 6th and 27 lbs since pre op diet!!!!!

I mostly ate Soup that I pureed. I make my own Soups and then just blended them up. Veggie Soup, minestrone soup - whatever it is that you like.

I'll be honest and say I kinda skipped the puree stage. I mean, I had yogurt and cottage cheese, the blended soup, but after a few days, I started testing the waters on soft solids - I had a bit of overcooked peas, some deli meat - just made sure that I chewed it down a lot before swallowing. I haven't had any issues.

I'm DEFINITELY NOT advising you go against your NUT's plan, I'm just saying that puree stage was tough for me too, because I didn't really know what to eat. Pretty much anything you want, but pureed is what my NUT told me, but it just didn't seem practical. The pureed veggie soup was good, tho - just got pretty boring! :)

Good luck, I hope you get some good suggestions!

actually, now that I'm thinking of it, lately I'm really enjoying a banana split in half with Peanut Butter on it. You could easily smash that to puree consistency! Bananas are good for wound healing, too. And get some natural pb - it has a lot of Protein in it. Yes, carbs too, but if you get natural pb, it's not as bad. Plus, you're not eating that much now, so I don't think carb counting is really all that important when you can eat so very little of anything - it has protein, go for it! :)

I'm on puréed food now. The things I've been eating: scrambled egg with melted cheese; refried Beans with salsa, sour cream, and melted cheese; cottage cheese; hummus; chili; chicken or tuna salads made with light mayo; ricotta cheese baked with a little spaghetti sauce and parmesan. It's not ideal, but after being on liquids so long, the puréed stage was a welcome change for me!! Best of luck!

Wow....all that sounds really good right about now! Did you have to puree the food or did you just eat it as you described?

My very first meal was turkey and gravy with mashed potatoes, and I puréed that. When I made my eggs, I made sure they were soft and the cheese kind of made them wet, so I didnt purée them. Not saying u should do what I did necessarily, but I felt like my much chewed the egg enough. With chicken and tuna salad, I puréed but it didn't really make it a gross consistency, which I was afraid of. Refried Beans, sour cream, and melted cheese, along with the ricotta dish I just baked and ate. They were both recipes in my book the NUT gave me. Cottage cheese I just eat rather than purée, and hummus is already mashed so I eat as-is. I think that covers all the foods I mentioned:)

pureed chicken/tuna salad

pureed chicken with taco sauce, cheese, and sour cream

Refried Beans with taco sauce, cheese and sour cream

Ricotta cheese with sauce and mozzarella

Cottage cheese with applesauce and cinnamon

Greek yogurt with sugar free seedless jam

Cauliflower with cheese sauce

Any kind of Soups

I was told to avoid all starches so I couldn't have anything with potatoes. I also wasn't allowed to have eggs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
