How long at the hospital everyone?

Recommended Posts

So about how long were you in the hospital for from admittance to release with this surgery? I have mine on monday and I'm trying to figure out approximately what time to tell my kids I'll be home. Thanks!

It depends on how you are doing and where you are. I have seen new banders out of the hospital in 6 hours. I was banded late in the day and spent overnight, I was out be 10am the next day.

I wouldn't be too specific on a time frame because you never know if you are going to get into the OR room on time or not. Things happen. You might tell them you will call them when you get out and are on your way home. And/or have the person staying with you keep in touch with the person taking care of them.

There is no way of telling what time you will be released, just the next day sometime. You may need a floro done before you leave or your doctor may not release his patients until afternoon. You can't pin point that time.

I was released the next day around 11am.

I was admitted at 9, went into surgery at 10, got in my car and went home at 2:30. But don't tell the kids to look for you that early......make it a late estimate, then surprise them and come home early if you can. In fact, I told my family I wouldn't be home til the next day, just in case.

To add more info, my doc said its rare for his patients to have to stay overnight. Also, I'm the first one of the morning so by 8 am I'd say I'll be in there.

The hospital will call who is picking you up when you are done in recovery. I would think that if you had a 9am surgery you would be out by 2pm.

Hi mypov...I can't believe your surgery is almost here! My surgery was scheduled for 6:30 and I was in recover for about an hour. I got home around 11-12. Good luck on Monday!! Let us know how you're doing when you feel up to it. Are you driving all the way back to Logan or are you staying in SL?

Hi there,

Congrats on surgery!

I was lucky and was first up that day. Was at the surgery center at 5:30am, was in pre-op by 6, was in recovery by 7:30 and was released to go home at about 10:30am. Was a wonderfully uneventful experience so was in and out in a flash :clap2:

Good luck on Monday!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
