Almost at maintenance...and I'm super scared!

Recommended Posts

I have lost 120 pounds in 7 months since my surgery. I want to lose 10 more pounds to be at goal weight. I have been reviewing my doctors maintenance plan and I'm nervous to start eating more. I am still having issues getting in all my liquids and I get full really fast (good thing I guess). I get dizzy constantly and just had to get more blood work on Friday to seenwhatbis going on. The nutritionalist wants me to eat more...almonds perhaps but I am so afraid. I bought them but nervous. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I think your nerves about transitioning to maintenance are a natural part of the process that is not spoken about enough. I found it terrifying to go from my sole focus being on the daily or weekly victories on the scale to... well, what was my focus going to be! It was scary.

So, I made new goals and for me they were fitness related. I'm training for some specific events and measure my progress not by the scale but by whether or not I'm moving forward towards those goals. And because I work so hard on my fitness, my weight management falls into place. I am struggling with the best way to eat to support my activity, with making healthy choices - but I don't struggle with keeping a healthy weight.

I encourage you to just work on not stressing too much about the transition, continue to reach out for support, and make the choices that will allow you to have the lifestyle you want. You can do this.

We are in the same boat!!!

I too am in maintenance, actually I would love to gain about 15 pds! It is so hard for me to eat 1000 calories a day, I average 800. I TRY to put something in my mouth every 2 hours, almonds, cashews, beef Jerky ect. But sometimes I just plain forget to eat! I also get lightheaded and dizzy, not enough calories and then I try to exercise not a good combo! :( I just had my 6 mo blood work done and all was well. So I know my lightheadedness comes from lack of food.

Good luck

Almonds very good for you, but organic please. pumpkin seeds and brazil nuts and walnuts all very healthy choices. Good for you on the weight loss. I'm only down 60 in 5 mo. I must be cheating.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
