My surgery is this coming Wed and I just started my period. Would they cancel the surgery do to my period? I've been waiting so long

Nope. With the rapid weight loss of the pre-op, many women start their period. I had my period and a bad head cold and they still sleeved me on Thursday. Coughing and sneezing after was a real bee-yotch, though.

Thanks Lipsticklady. So they won't reschedule it? If we go in bare, how will I control the bleeding ?

Just let your pre-op nurse know. They will tell you what you need to do. You aren't the first' date=' I promise. I don't bleed much when I am laying down, so I didn't have issues. Do you?[/quote']

Thanks. I am trying to kit emotionally breakdown. I am thinking they would re schedule and I already planned everything to the t. I appreciate the hope you gave me

Hmmm not sure what my first sentence says. Sorry. What I wanted to say is that I'm trying to not have an emotional breakdown.

I also started the day before I left and it was not an issue. I was even able to leave a pad and my underwear on once I explained to the nurse.

No, they won't cancel! I COMPLETELY understand the fear, tho. I had a sinus infection 1 wk before surgery and thought FOR SURE they would cancel, but thankfully they didn't. A nurse should call you the day before to confirm surgery time and go over a list of questions with you, which will include asking if you're on your period or your last menstrual period date. You can't wear a tampon or cup, you have to have on a pad. If you don't normally use pads, I would buy some now - the ones at the hospital aren't always the best, and not always designed for a heavy flow (which, you never know if the surgery/anesthesia will alter your normal flow for better or worse).

It sucks to have that going on at the same time, but it shouldn't affect your surgery at all. :)

Good luck!!

Agree with everyone here, I was worried about the same thing pre-op but when I spoke to the pre-op nurse she said no need to worry, would have to use a pad....gross, and if you were unable to care for your hygeine needs immediately post-op that the nurses are used to it and would "take care" of it for you...double gross. Thank the lord, my period came the week before surgery so I didn't have to deal with any of it, but was comforting to know that they were prepared if needed.

Good Luck!

Aly, remember that hospitals deal with bodily fluids ALL THE TIME. ;) Menstrual flow isn't going to freak them out. During surgery, you're usually on an absorbent pad anyway and soon after surgery, they'll want you up and walking anyway...so just put a pad in your underwear and you're good to go! In fact, it'll be extra incentive for you to get out of bed. ;) And that's a good thing, too, because the more you move, the sooner you'll feel better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
